if you are in veggie mode water every other day and if your in flowering water every two days make sure you water with enough water at least 8 oz per plant

if you can find something that you can sit your pots in... that way when you water any run off goes in said container and not on the floor... i have a "run off container" under each pot.. when i water i know exactly how much water i can water with without it over flowing the sides of the "run off container"... i leave that water in there and usually after about 2 hours the plant has sucked it up anyways.... i water every 2 or 3 days.. thats just me.. hope this was what you were askin... good luck

+rep all... so how much runoff should i allow to drain.. because recently ive been letting what i would say is about a gallon from three gallon pots drain, trying to get all the roots moisture.

I have cheap plastic trays under 3-gallon pots. The amount of water all depends on how old the plants are and what stage there in and what kind of lights you have. I use MH-for veg and used less water HPS for flowering needed more water more frequent due to heat and root size plus plant requirements. I use my finger to test the soil, although The leaves will let you know they need water.
For six plants I usually take 2 gallons split it up between 3 plants to absorb and soften the soil a bit wait a few mins. Then take however many gallons to see the water coming out the drain holes into the tray. Just don't overwater, Let the soil dry good before next waterings 3-4 day's. Just my opinion.

if you're having trouble getting to the pots I use a sprayer for outdoor mosquito control and just stick the tube back there and pump.
