How do you tell it's ready without a scope?

Do you go by colors of the leaves and how many leaves are changed? I know what, 80% red hairs isn't the best.

Wait till the vast majority of pistils turn orange, and recede. The buds will get a certain look to them, when they are ripe.

What you're waiting for, is the buds to stop growing. White pistils mean there is still growing happening.

Think of a banana. Can you tell the difference between an unripe and ripe one?
