I have my ballast outside my tent and i use chains to hang everything..check out my journal.. using a tent..

i put the ballast anywhere as long as it gets good air circulation under/around it and not too close to anything you dont want getting hot.
you should have gotten straps with the box for the fan to tie it to the ceiling of the box on rails, otherwise park it ontop of the box half in and half out of the air flow hole

Ballast is outside on the top of the tent. Fan and hood are double and triple zip-tied to the roof support poles. Once I get a carbon filter, I'm going to just put it on the floor and run ducting to the fan.
