It gets pretty bloody hot here in Australia, so I was wondering how people cool their small space seedling or veg cupboards / boxes anything under the 1/2 a cubic meter. If there is something out there that I haven't already thought of.
It's only just the start of Spring and were already hitting 32 C / 90 F degree days and it shoots up to 40+ in the summer. So no amount of natural air flow is going to cool the cupboard down , if left with just a fan it gets to 31 by Midday. I don't want to turn on the house Air con big split system as it will cost a fortune so looking at ideas of just cooling the cuboard itself.
Ideas :
Ice bucket - this Is what I'm currently doing just freezing a 3ltr bucket of ice in the freezer each night and putting it in front of the fan and that will keep the room at 27 C but I'm getting sick of switching it over every day and when I go away for a few days this is not going to work.
Window Aircon - I've got a small window/wall aircon, but it's too large for the skinny windows so I'd have to knock a hole in the wall of the room where the cupboard is so not really keen on that idea.
Make your own mini aircon - Watched a few videos on some DIY setups, but just about all of them use ice that you need to refill so that's pointless. There is this one
but honestly its going to cost me $50 at the electronics store just for the parts and I don't think it is going to cope when we get up in the 40 C summer.
Mini aicon off ebay - Has anyone tried these ? Do they actually work or just cheap chinese junk. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-Portable-Air-Conditioner-Cooler-Fan-Personal-Space-Cooling-Home-Office/332723551925?_trkparms=aid=555018&algo=PL.SIM&ao=1&asc=20140106155344&meid=c25af2ec8ce847d0a53a825194cb30ae&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=3&sd=283085965363&itm=332723551925&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
Looks like they just have a water reservoir just change every day or so ( which I could make a larger tank easily enough ) and should be pretty cheap on power its just a USB charger. But I'm dubious if they will actually work.
