How do I cool 1000w HPS?

Yeah, they have them so you can hook it up just like your exhaust and it will blast the heat right out of there. Should def make a difference. If you keep having trouble you might need to downgrade to a 600

You could get it cooled but a 600 would be better fitted to that size of room.

You are missing a very important point. You don't have the head room for 1000w. You will need at least 20 inch min. of headroom. My light is at 8 feet, on the ceiling and I run out of room at the top and have to s-bend, gently and tape the tallest colas or they will light burn.

So, I have a 5ft high tent and I veg to 3 feet tall in there under a 250w CFL. And I can still get light stress when they grow too close to that.

Heat is not the problem, but even in a bathroom with a 10frt ceiling on one end, I have to water cool, for 1000w.

That takes a 100 gals of water in the shade on the north side of the house, flow switches for safety, etc.

That's what I've done....
I kept my ventilated 1000w at the same height that I'd had my open 600w
It's roasted the central growth.

I've never heard of a water cooling system for HID's....
Sounds potentially devastating.

It is called the Fresca Sol. Inner and outer class tube, the water path is about a 1/2 inch space between. Not that bad of price.

They even have a wide, 2 lamp, end to end type.

It was a wet bitch to set up. But, now it just works these last two years. I have my rig in a central hall bath and I took some wall board off and drilled down between the studs. I made sure I don't have any connectors, to leak under the house. Straight hose run about 30 feet, to a 100 gal garbage bin. In there is a 1/6 HP, sump pump hanging in the middle so it doesn't make any noise.

It is sits in a filter bucket and I run a little bit of Baqua (non-chlorine) spa stuff to preserve the water.

The key to the set up is not the plumbing, if you screw that up, it is very obvious. The trick, it is to plumb in and wire a permission switch in the water flow. No flow no go. And i got very close to total lose of the entire rig one day, before I got that switch.

I was using a DIY float switch thing that failed. I caught it when the chamber was only 1/2 full, no flow, and the water was beginning to boil....2 minutes to BOOM.

Wheew....that was a close one.

I found one at Dwyers Instrument for $40. Saved $150 on that find.

you need another fan w/ an air cooled hood. or a 600w lamp, but you might still want the air cooled hood so you can get the light lower to the plants.

20" of space between an air cooled hood and your tops is crazy. i guess it just depends how well you cool your hood. i have a 600cfm fan running cold outside air through my 1000w hood and my buds are within 4-6" w. no bleaching, no burn, and nothing but explosive growth. and i barely breach 80f just inches from the glass. figure out what works for you because there are no hard and fast rules. the cooler you get your hood the closer you get your plants. the closer you get your plants, the bigger and denser your buds will be.

All about the foot candles. Sun power at sea level is 10K FC, energy density. At 12,000 feet, it is 16,000 FC.

For HPS at 1000w you get 10K FC at 25". 16K FC is about 15"

So, you can keep it in that range and no problem. I think they have to get used to it, though. And I don't mean for Veg.

Remember full sun power is only in the afternoon, for a few hours and only in the height of summer. By fall and natural harvest it has fallen off again

And I have burned the buds. Oh, they look fine, but they won't cure correctly and taste terrible

My first run of WW. Palm sized cola that I had let grow up all that way to the light. No heat at all coming from the water light.

But, as it dried out it became oddly spongy and by the time it cured, it was a red coco brown, and smelled like Mex. Unsmokeable and that says a lot.

You can see from the second picture the black blasted tricomes.

thats crazy! i've never seen anything like those blackened trichs.
