How close?

How close should I have my 250 watt HPS from my plants at the moment is approx 10 inch's from them?

10 inches sounds about right. Hold your hand at plant top level directly under the lamp. It should be warm, but not at all hot.

I run 150s that are about 6-10 inches up depending on current temps.
