How Close Should Lights Be?

I just hung up my 600w M.H-- HPS light system vegging under the M.H got 4, 2 week old babies how far should my light be from the plants?????

Just asked that question myself a few days ago. The best answer that I got, that can be translated onto your situation (because my ? was about a 400w bulb) is that if you hold the back of your hand under the light and it's too hot for you, then it's too hot for your plants. If you have a high heat tolerance, add a bit more distance to compensate for your ability to handle the heat.

hey robert i dont know the lumnes on the M.H and the chart u had did not have a 600w lable so u think 8 inches if my hand is not hot?

looks like 8-10 would be good if like you say the heat is under control
