How close is too close with the double ended 1000 watt HPS fixture?

I have installed a double-ended fixture in my room . I am using my phone light sensor which I know isn't the best in the world on a galaxy s4. I have the light a little over 30 inches above canopy right now, I am reading 40,000 lux. Should I drop the lights down to increase this from what I understand 75,000 is the limit, is this right? I know there are better ways to measure lights for plants but this is all I have to go on for right now. So in lux what should I shoot for with a double-ended 1000w fixture?

Anyone? Well I suppose there is one way to find out. I just dropped it a few inches closer to the canopy. Just under30 in.

I'm pretty sure they are honestly supposed to be pretty damn high above the canopy.

I know of one guy who got his DE too close to his plants and they all died (and i think it was still pretty far away); I honestly don't know for sure what other variables were at play but the DE was blamed.

This seems to be about as close as I can get with it now and maintain temps.

got mine a little less than 30", I don't think i can get any closer due to heat from the bulb. Yeah if u r running more than one DE I think hotspots occur easily, and it is recommended that you stay way above the plants, and space them 8' apart. Yeah I was scared of this light didn't even want to try it till winter, but my ballast crapped out, so it's in there. So far so good. thanks for the reply though.

I have a height issue and ended up with trees this round. The gavita is about 30 inches from the canopy and it seems to be ok. Tiny bit of up curl from light stress but no heat . Maybe because it's close to Ac and fans but there is no temp difference at 30inches above canopy. The nanolux de seems to be around the same distance and also ok. I recommend 3 feet distance but you will be ok with 30 inches
