How can some people live with themselves?

I have a stray cat that I've been feeding, desperately trying to find him a home before winter.I have six cats already, one being a very territorial Siamese,so I can't keep this one.I've wormed him and fattened him up, and he lives on my screened in porch amongst some boxes and an old recliner I left out there. He's a sweet cat.
Fast forward to Friday...I hear a cat meowing at my back door.I assume it's either the Siamese or the Persian, wanting in.I open the door and this little fluffy half grown kitten runs in my house right to the food dish(which is by the back door)and begins gulping the food down between pitiful meows. My daughter bathed the cat because it had gotten into some cooking grease somewhere and it kinda stank. The cat has been on my front porch, and runs in every time I open the door.It is starved for affection. I feel so awful for these guys.I won't take them to the pound because it's a kill shelter, and it was in the local newspaper that they are too full as it is. I just wonder how people can treat their animals like disposable lighters like this. These cats had obviously been domesticated...then, when the owners tired of them, they dumped them.

I know, it's disgusting how cruel some people can be towards animals.

It breaks my heart.I try to imagine what they might be thinking(the cats)...they have love and protection, and suddenly they are abandoned....they are always so depressed when they show up.And they all seem to know to come here.

it is terrible here in south texas the mexican culture over flows the border there is a diff attitude toward domestic animals ,it really pisses me off dogs tied to trees on knotted ropes half starved and covered in ticks , or dogs allowed to run wild and breed every time they come into heat , they take no responsibility for the animals ...rant over

That confirms it:

"For unknown reasons, pet hoarders tend to be women-- hence the fact that our Crazy Cat Lady is, stereotypically, a "lady". This may relate to a desire to hoard pets based on maternal feelings, or a desire to care for weak or abandoned animals. Although it begins as an act of compassion and love, the Crazy Cat Lady's desire for companionship quickly escalates into an out-of-control mental illness."

I hear ya.If I was rich, I'd seriously have a farm full of strays, and people hired to help care for them.I love animals, they've always been true friends.

Uh...no, it's just plain compassion, thanks.I don't like to see things mistreated.I have six cats, and were I a hoarder, I'd have taken on more. It's obvious in your case there is no help for stupid. It's nice to see such a shining example of Christianity on this forum such as yourself, Green Cross. All love and compassion, my ass.

All of my animals are strays as well.I do what I can for the ones I can't keep.I'm not rich, so I can't take every stray to the vet, and I do most of my own vet work for my own cats, unless it's a serious problem. At farm stores you can buy syringes, penicillin, vaccinations, wormers, antifungals, etc....all the stuff your vet would use, only by doing it yourself you save tons of money.I also treat my animals with herbs. They are all very healthy and strong.
we have 4 cats and two dogs all but one were strays

Hi if its a very cute cat, ask your vet if they can't keep it in a cage in the reception area for a while, worst case i had to supply kitten food to them once for two weeks.
They tend to get snapped up realy fast.

Of course I also have a few friends who have taken stray cats from me before. We only kept one stray, she was like a 5 week old baby sitting in the road all alone and covered in shit, and her arse was swolen like lips, becasue some doos tried to feed her catfood, but I also have 6 cats.
