How are we looking so far? 400W Closet grow. Blue Dream, White Widow, Bubblelicious

Just curious to see others thoughts on my progress so far. I'm growing with a 400W HPS w/ A/C hood.

First plant is the Blue Dream which came from a bag seed.

8/18 - We'll call this day 1. First day above soil.

8/25 - Day 7, topped above the first node for two main stalks.

9/3 - Day 17, getting bushy! -- Looks to be a very indica dominant strain. Haven't seen any leaves like this before, thoughts? Very deep dark green when not under the HPS light.

Second Plant - Bubblelicious (Nirvana Fem.)

8/26 - First Day above soil. Day 1. This was germinated about a week after I started the above plant.

9/4 - Transplanted to a 2 gal pot. Plant is now 9 days old.

Third Plant - White Widow (G13 Labs Fem.)

8/26 - First Day above soil. Plant is same age as above (Bub).

9/3 - Day 9, just transplanted to a 2 gal pot.

So I guess the ultimate reason for posting this thread is for encouragement! I feel like my girls are growing slowly but steadily. This is my first grow and would appriciate any input you might see beneficial =) -- PS - I just watered plants in the latest photos, I let the soil get dry to about 2-3" down.

I wouldnt have topped my plant so early, but it seems to have handled it somewhat well, also do you have any more info? like the size of closet, growing medium, nutrients, etc etc.

I agree roots should not get direct light, so iv'e heard. Also, did you say the bushy one that looks like indica is blue dream? just wondering cause if im not mistaken blue dream is sativa dominant, like 80%.

1 x Digilux 400W HPS Grow Bulb Enhanced Blue Spectrum
1 x Sunlight Cool Sun 6 Air Cool Horizontal Reflector w.Glass Lens
1 x Lumatek 400W 120/240V Dimmable Electronic Ballast
1 x Phresh® Filter 6in x 24in Virgin Carbon
1 x Perma Duct Premium Air Ducting 6"x25'
1 x Active Air 6" 400 CFM In-line Duct Fan

Closet specs are about 3x5x8 at it highest point (closet is under stairs).

Stri - sorry to hijack your thread but have you run your current system without the venting? I'm setting up a similarly sized closet grow with a 400 HPS but I want to avoid ducting if I can. Instead I want to air cool the light and use a 200 CFM outtake fan to exhaust the closet (with a passive intake) through the ceiling. I want to find out if I'll run into any heat trouble by avoiding the inline venting... thanks.

I have a 3-speed fan control (from Home Depot) to tone down the exhaust. When running on high temps avg around 78-81*. Ambient air temp of the intake is roughly 69-72*. With fan running on medium temps rise about 5* and avg about 83-85*. Without fan running temps would rise considerably. I went overkill on the ventilation bc of odor control.

Woah, I too, am starting almost exactly what you are doing. Trying to set up a 3x8x8 closet with venting into the attic, passive intake from under the door. I too, do not want to run the inline venting. I was thinking of doing a 600, but seems like I can go with the 400. This will be my first indoor grow and I am so overwhelmed. lol

Overwhelming ...got that right. If I were you, I might recommend going with the 600 depending on the light. It seems some of these fan specs are inflated and it's good to go overkill with a fan than under.

I decided to double my initial fan speed plan. The prices of two Hydrofarm fans i'm looking at are identical. Speeds are 165 and 400...

do 600 and 600watthps i have a 4in inline fan for my 400watt, keeps the hood cool to the touch, if your going to do a 6in inline fan do a 600watt, you cant overkill with lumens either

Now I'm thinking about venting the hood into the attic and separating the closet with panda film and venting the flower area into the closet(I don't want to vent into the attic because I am paranoid with smell, I'll have a carbon filter but I rent and my attic is shared, I wouldn't know if the filter was working. Would there be a way for the smell to seep into the other house? I would think the air would rise out, idk..?)

Forgot to add ..a speed controller can be added for an over-powered fan...
i bought a router speed control from harbor freight tools for $19.99 looks just like a fan speed controller.
i run a 400 cmf inline fan in a 2x4 tent on low/med with a 400w hps 1-2 in from the tops of my plants cool tube relfector. the temp in my tent is 81 with 50% humidity. ambient temp is 78 f.

Decided to post a small update:

Blue Dream - 3.5 weeks old

This plant was topped above it's first node very early. She seemed to handle the stress well. Just trimmed about 8 large fan leaves to allow light to the smaller nodes under them. -- This plant is going to be bushy!!

Bubblelicious - 2.5 Weeks old. Just topped for the first time this evening! Any ideas why the edges of the leaves are curling up like this? Just noticed it a few days ago and assumed it was stress from being too close to the light? I have raised the A/C hood (400W HPS) to about 20" above canopy. What's odd is other plants are not exhibiting same behavior?

White Widow - 2.5 Weeks old. Topped for the first time this evening.
