I was given a 400W MH setup with a 360W HPS conversion bulb with magnetic ballast.

I have no idea which bulb is which. They look exactly the same, ecept one bulb has a small cirlcular metal piece on it..

Which is which??

if you look at the glass part of the bulb...If it is a true hortilux it'll be stamped on the glass tube...usually by the bottom right next to the metal part.......it should be stamped with the name hortilux as well as size and type of bulb

Look at the picture on the right. Check out the pic on the box that the bulb came in. Now look at the bulb in your hand. You say it has a "small circular metal piece on it". Look at the pic on the box and reverse the insides.

The "small circular metal piece" is on the reverse side in the pic on the box. My detective fee will be a +rep due to the fact that some naughty admin gave me a -30 rep for no reason at all lol :-o

After further research I have concluded that the bulb in your hand is the 400 watt hps conversion and the bulb that is already screwed in to the reflector is the 400 watt regular hps. Go to the Hortilux sight. You can see the pics for yourself.

it was probably setup to use the MH for veg, and the HPS for flower...

the blue light keeps the node spacing tight in veg, and the red light helps them flower and supposedly not stretch so much... but either light will work for the life of the plant.

when you get a chance you'll probably want to replace those bulbs with a 400w hortilux EYE bulb, which will put out more lumens and a fresh bulb is better... they dont work well after a lot of grows - not sure how old the ones you have are.

just plug em in dude. the metal halide will be a noticeably more white light and the hps will make its signature orange tinted light
