hortilux blue

IMHO, metal halide (MH) blue is the best vegging light out there. However, T5 lighting is very good for vegging as well, and runs cooler.

I've used both. I tend to use T5 until they are about 8 inches tall. Then I put them in the SCROG closet under a Hortilux MH 400-watt blue to finish vegging.

I've got my t-5 for clones and i alread have a 600w mh for veg, just wondering about the bulbs. The spectrum on the back of my bulb is a joke compared to hortilux blue

Why spend the huge bucks on "name brand" lights?

Industrial MH work just as well and cost 3x less. I've done this for years and the cost to benefit ratio is NOT worth it!!
Hell, if you buy by the case (6, 1k lamps),,,,,you spend the amount of the one name brand for all 6 of the industrial lamps!
Why not get 3+ years of lighting for the price of 6-8 months!!!!

I purchased a SolisTek 600 watt digital ballast it wouldn't power my Eye Hortilux Blue bulb. I took the ballast and bulb to my local grow shop and we tested it there and it still wouldn't work with the ballast. We called Eye Hortilux and was told that the bulb would work with most ballasts, but didn't really get a clear answer as to why that particular ballast wouldn't power the bulb. I ended up getting a really good deal on a Xtrasun Magnetic 600 watt HPS ballast. I love the bulb though and will switch out my T5's for it when my plants get a bit bigger.

I use Ushio bulbs. They are wicked expensive and worth every penny. (not too wicked, like twice as much as some)
Do you use both mh and hps bulbs? My next bulb will probably be a regular hps bulb since I'm using t5's to veg. I'm hoping this will be my first successful grow. I'll learn as I grow.

I use t5s,400w mh cheap bulbs....and also L.E.D. .i did not like the footprint of the l.e.d. So i put it in my flower room...works well with the 600w hps...

That's cool. Less heat with the l.e.d. too. I'm gonna hook up my hortilux blue after my plants veg a little, but before flower. I have a heater in my grow room to keep the temp around 80F. I think it's hovering around 81F. Once I hook up the 600 watt blue I'm hoping I can get rid of the heater.
