Homemade bubbleponics system-1st grow

Hello.

I have just recently decided to do a hydro grow..My first one. I have built the system using a 35 gallon rubbermaid tote(darkblue), 2 30 gallon air pumps each feeding 2 12inch airstones for a total of 4 stones. This will house 6 plants...I thought about housing 8 plants b/c I have seen some succesfull grows in smaller reservoirs than mine with 6 plants...Any suggestions there?

So they will be housed in 6 inch net pots with hydroten rocks...I will be using rapid rooters for the cube....sketchy about using rockwool from some of the stuff I've read.

Also, the system isn't in a enclosed space like a closet, it is my bedroom...It's just me and wife so no worries about smell or things. With my bedroom door shut and the windows coverd with cardboard it is really dark in there...I can't see any light coming into the room except for the couple small LED's on my computer. I am using a 400 watt HPS system with ballast. I was wondering if I need ventillation for this setup...I have a few 18inch fans blowing from different areas creating a nice airflow. Does anyone think this will work for the large space I am using?

I have some more questions but I will wait untill I get some answers on these.

Help is appreciated from anyone with grow experience. I have not yet started the grow..I am going to wait untill I know what exactly I need.:bigjoint:

i think u should use a smaller res...easier to manage...i have four plants in six gallon res....look at my grow u shall see

Thanks for the response. I've heard that it is better to have 5 gallons for every plant. oh well...there will be more room for root growth without entanglement. What do you think about the lighting question I had...any thoughts there. I am going to stick with the 35 gallon because it is already built. I'm not worried about maintenance. I can handle that.

Have you considered building a partition in the room, or maybe sticking your res in a growcab? If I were you, that`s what i`d do; of course, I like to take naps in the middle of the day without starring into a 400w hps. whatever you decide to build is going to greatly effect the ventilation set-up. :peace:

hey man..check out the bubbleponics setup thread setup in my sig.I am also growing with a 400w hid setup with a fan and cooltube..youll need it or a lil air conditioner in there cause the temp gonna rise..Also a small pump with an airstone in the res to oxygenate the roots..Keep the ph between 5.5-6.5..uhh...Theres alot to it.

I agree your tanks are too big. I use an 8 gallon tank and 6 gallons of water for 6 plants. With 35 gallons, you have 4 Times as much work, doing the Draining and Replinishing.

When they get in full bloom, they are going to be a mess of flowers in your room, might be an allergy or repiratory problem there.

And it is going to be difficult controlling the heat and humidity in a large room, that is why we grow in a closet or tent..

I VEG 5 weeks with 24/7 LIGHT. Won't the LIGHT bother you when you try to sleep?
