High energy use, how to hide

am looking at a garden using 4500 watts of power in a small vacant house. after renting how can I explain usage. no one will live there so all power will be used for garden. Thought of explaining usage as a saltwater fish or reptial raising operation... should I notify the electric company prior to the usage. I will also spread the usage out over the full 24 hours. no spikes.. any thoughts would be welcomed

4500w doesnt seem like that much to me if nobody is living there using electricity. You should try to make the place look lived in though. A house that looks vacant that uses a lot of electricity is a red flag in my opinion.

Create a sublet agreement, and make a copy for the electric company. Set up a timer in different places of the house-- a TV on during the day or bedroom lights at night. It should get them off your back.

If you try to explain it to anybody, then you might as well say you are running a grow op. The power companies do not look at your power consumption unless you do not pay the bill. Pay your bill on time and nobody will ask any questions. As for notifying the power company prior to the usage, you might as well send a notice to the cops also that you are planning to start a grow op. Be smart........tell nobody!
