hid isn't the best thing for newly sprouted plants. and if your going to use it make sure its up atleast 3 feet. depending on how many watts that is

Tahmi is correct. If you're going to use HID's on seedlings or clones, you want the bulb to be near the maximum distance away that it can support healthy plant growth. For example, a good 400w can support healthy growth up to about 3.5' away from the bulb. You'd put that light about 3' away so the seedlings are as far away as possible while still getting enough light to grow. Move the lights closer as the little ones get bigger. Most Fluorescents can be a few inches away from the plants.

There are discussions on seed retailers in the Seedbank section. They come and go. One will be on top awhile until it's shipments start getting seized more often and then another site will be the best awhile. I've had a good experience recently with Worldwideseeds.

I disagree, you can grow with your HID light as close you would for any other level of growing as long as you don't overheat them. More light = faster growth. I like to stick my seedlings outside in full summer sun, they thrive in it.

i have 6 seedlings that have been under a 400w mh for 3 weeks from sprout. they are about 18 inches away from plants and look great so far. but you def need exhaust fans to keep the heat off the kids. as long as the heat is not there it seems to work good
