this might be a sill question, but can i blow cold outside air into the one side of my lampshade and have another dry vent pipe on the other end suckin the cool air in so the air passes the bulb and cools it?... i guess what im sayin is it okay to blow cold outside wintery air on a HID bulb?

You need to be careful about rapid temperature changes with glass. HID's can get very hot and if all of a sudden you're blowing cold air onto them you're putting the bulbs under a lot of stress which could potentially end in it shattering. If you're going to do this, start venting the cool air in on the bulbs with the bulbs off for an hour or so then turn them on so that it doesn't have to suffer the sudden temperature drop.
