Hi all. I have a few basic questions that have probably already been answered on here somewhere before but then I wouldn't really have anything to post...I hope to give valuable advice at some point when I'm a bit more experienced. For now: That's not happening.

Anyways:
For a grow area with the dimensions of around 3x3x5; Would a 250w or 400w hps be better? I'm planning on SCROG and am planning on starting from feminized seeds each time. The medium I will be using is soil. I am a big fan of that giggly, head high. Needless to say I will be growing a lot of sativa or sativa/indica strands. Maybe a 100% indica to keep in my arsenal to help relax on the couch after a long day at work. And I have those often. Maybe I only had one question. Not 'questions' as I advertised before. I'm sure there will be more to follow though. So look out for them with anticipation!

400W...i would NEVER go below that.

It depends on your venting to be honest. If you get high cfm fans you could easily do the 400 watt.

I am planning on using as much ventilation that is needed to run whichever one would be better. I'm only growing it for myself and enough incase I have to take a break from it. This probably won't happen once I start though.

Why not homegrown? Just curious.

Well the buds with the 400 watt would be a lot better. Are you planning on going with a switchable ballast or just HPS?

Just plain HPS. I know HID for veg. and HPS for flower. If I can use a HPS for the whole duration I will just do that. Though I have been looking on e-bay and the switchable ballasts are just about as much as a plain HPS ballast. So I am undecided. This is my main problem. The lighting.

It is metal halide or MH for veg and high pressure sodium or HPS for flowering. I would go with the switchable ballast because that will give you some niiiiiice buds

I just remembered my other question. Oops....That short term memory is not on my side right this instant. About how many plants? I was planning on 2-3.

You could flower about 6-10 plants nicely under the 400W.

So if I only did 3 I'm assuming the buds would be super nice.

Yeah the buds would be super nice but if you grew six they would be super nice nugs too. Your choice

Haha its true, if you are worried about the po po than grow less plants. it's understandable.

I'm building almost the same set up at this moment. Same dimensions and Scrog. With scrog you can generally do 1 plant per square foot. But I wouldn't do 9 plants. I'd say 5-6 tops. The more plants you have though, the faster you can fill your screen and start to flower. For myself I'm ordering a 400w HPS from HTGsupply.com, it's only $120. I'm also building a mother chamber with cheap CFLs so I can keep the harvest coming faster. Might want to think about that.

I'm sure all the new people say this, but this place is great. Everyone on every thread seems to want to help the next person out just as much as the one they helped before. So, thank you guys for all your input and anyone who may be adding input.

I'm thinking about going for the gold and doing 4-5 plants. There are people who have grown for years in the states and still keep doing it. Plus, I've been smoking for years and have yet to be caught.

What size pots? 6" or 8"? I want to make sure my roots have enough room.

as regards the 400w, have you got the ventilation sorted?

When you figure out how you're doing your ventilation, let me know. Lol. I'm stumped on how to jigsaw a hole, put a fan in, and still make it light-tight.
