For HID's, I only use Intermatic. They are 'mechanical time switches' that are the AK-47 of timers. Lowes and HD both have them.
Draw backs are you have to wire them yourself. Plus side is, I'M USING ONE THAT HAS BEEN IN SERVICE FOR WELL OVER 40 YEARS.

At the very least, get a water heater timer for the HID. The cheapo timers are fine for lower power stuff. Don't skimp. Get at least a 30-40 amp timer for HID's.
