Help with some simple stuff.

Hi, I have three plants all in the same three gallon pot, the pot is separated into three by some wood so the roots never meet. i use a pretty weak CFL that touches the plants, and a 50 watt grow light that puts off blue light. The tallest plant I have is a foot and a month and two weeks old, the smallest is 6 inches and three weeks old. Should I start to flower them?

I only have the three foot space they are in to work with, it's right next to my desk and I just use clip lights it's mainly been to get them started. The lights are a 40 watt CFL grow light and it usually touches the plants, the other is a 50 watt blue light, it's a grow light made by phillips I don't know what kind of light it is. Would a 70 watt HPS be good for so little space.

U really need more light and separate pots would be better as well. If u got the hps USE IT! My very first plant i tried to grow, i used nearly the exact same lighting setup as u with the phillups and a cfl or two.... this is what i got out of em and please, hold ur laughter til the end. Check this poor thing out-

As u can see, that poor gal in the pic is sorely in need of light, lots more light. As for flowering goes, with plenty of light, they'll double in size or more after u switch em to 12/12. Plan ahead and don't run out of space but in the mean time, get more lights setup. I'd use the hps u mentioned, plus any additional cfl's u can get setup. Remember, once u decide to flower, ur gonna want SOFT WHITE cfls somewhere in the 2700k range.

Sorry for that, well I don't have the HPS. My plants are about that tall the node's spacing is better, I have to use the 3 gallon pot because it's the only way I can get three close enough to share light. If I got a 70 watt HPS would I need to get a special ballast?

Idk about a 70 watter... but i got a 150hps bulb from home depot many moons ago, the sametime i was tryin to grow that lanky thing in the pic, with hopes that it would work in a regular light socket since it had the same base size on the bulb and NO GO. It'll say on the box what kind of ballast it needs to run it if u wanna go that route though.

How much would a base for the 150 watt go for?

Also how much are HPS lights, I never looked into them yet, I'm really surprised my plants got this big my first time ever working with a plant. Can I flower them if I got the HPS tomorrow, I can't take a picture, but the plants are a foot tall for the sativa I have and it's nodes are about 2 inches apart each, 6 nodes it just started growing it's first 5 blade leaves. My indica is 8 inches and the nodes are an inch apart each with 7 nodes, and it's starting is first 7 blade. Could I flower them with a 150 watt HPS and possibly get a good yeild?

.... I like to set those clip on lights right around the rim of the pot when i'm vegging, adjusting them as neccessary along the way. Looks something like this-

.... I got a bit better results compared to the first pic i posted, lol;-)

Damn, I'll definitely work the CFL's like that next time I start propagating my seeds. I just clipped the CFL to my desk and hovered it and inch above the plant, but I can work in way more lights that way.

U can flower anytime u want really, but like i said, u wanna leave urself room ya know. HPS's really aren't THAT expesive, well, they don't HAVE to be i should say... try searching RIU for '$20 e-conolight'the it's a 150hps that just needs a few modifications if ur up to it. Or, check out htgsupply.com, they got some sweet lights but they do cost. I got a 400w HPS, air-cooled hood, digital ballast. But it ran me around $250 shipped to my doorstep. Before that one, i had just a basic 400watter, magnetic ballast built into a batwing style hood for like $150. Got that one off ebay.

Yeah, I'll look for the e-conolight, I'll also see if maybe the 70 watts would work in my lamps.

Pretty sure any HID bulb needs a ballast to get the sucker goin. Good luck bro, don't be sceered to post some Q's about it either. Lots of folks around here that're plenty willing to help a fellow grower out. U can get as far into this grow thing as ur willing to take it. I've seen some simply amazing setups costing thousands and thousands of dollars, no need for someonelike myself to go that far into it, but i still love some of the pics people post. Peace.
