Hello, I've checked this site out alot and I have a question for you guys, I'm setting up a grow tent and I'm a tad confused as to what I need to get lol. First off this is an effort to cut down smell, I'm setting this tent up as a bloom tent, I have another set up for veg it will have four deathstar plants under 2 600s HPS. My questions begin here I found a tent that is 48x48x80 I intend on getting one hood for both bulbs and was wondering how big of a fan you think I'll need for both bulbs in the same enclosure. Also I'm going to run a carbon filter does that vent with the lights or do I set up different ventalation for that?

No matter what wattage you run, here is the proper setup:

Carbon filter>>>>>venting pipe/hose>>>>>>cool tubes/hoods>>>>>>venting pipe/hose>>>>>inline fan>>>>>>>venting pipe/hose to final exhaust.

That's the best way. Some will argue, but they're dumb.

You 1 fan for that setup. It should be sized correctly.

sorry to hijack but I'm looking to set up something similar n while the filter > tube > fan > exhaust makes perfect sense I'm a little confused about the intake part of ventilation in a tent...how do you get air in there without letter the smell inside get out ? Just run a fan blowing into a hose directly into the tent or something ? Sry typos , on a phone

What part of Michigan are you from? Pretty much with a good centrifugal fan your gonna have negative pressure in the tent and it will all be sucked through the fan. That being said, when you have a potential elbow of skunk in a tent a carbon filter isn't going to cancel out %100 percent of the smell.

1200W is going to bee too much for a 4x4 tent, even with an air cooled shade. You might get away with it in fall/winter/early spring but forget about summer unless you plan on hooking up a ac to it but hat adds another layer of complexity.

A Pro Filter 70s like this one http://www.hydrotek.ca/en/product.php?id=666 with a 6" inline fan like a vortex/can fan will remove all the smell as long as the tent is closed.

I don't need 100% percent no smell but 75% less would be awesome & I figured with an appropriately sized fan it wouldn't create the vaccuum but would still do the job, just gotta figure out what size that is, lol.

Think so? I was wondering about that too my logic was I have central air in my house and that's where the intake would be from and I keep it kind of cold about 62, second the lights will be on a closed loop vent system with a seperate fan a pretty intense one if you don't think I can manage then what do you see as the limit? or should I supplement more lights and use one 600.

That setup is ok but I've tested another method in a 4x4x6.5 tent..
CF>short duct>fan>duct>cool tube>exhaust duct out room/tent.

Depending on the quality of your fan, the hot air from the light being sucked in will reduce the overall lifespan of the fan based on hotter motor temps and overall strain.

Using the order above you simply blow air through the cool tube which keeps your fan (that should be on 24.7) running at optimum temperatures to assist in a longer lifespan

250 cfm inline fan and matching cfm carbon filter (get a phresh) would work well. That would recycle your air in the tent 2+ times a minute. Might even want to go up into the 300+
CFM. Rule of thumb is to recycle 3 times the volume of air a minute but that can be overkill sometimes. Don't go cheap on odor prevention.
