Recently germinated an Ice seed in a small DWC set that I made for a mother. I germinated it in the brand new STG (sure to grow) inserts! They are so much nicer than rock wool.

I am running 2, 26w 65k bulbs 2-3 inches away. The temp. stays around 70-75 degrees. I check and adjust ph 2 times a day.

The seedling has been germinated and growing for 5 days now. Up until 2 days ago I noticed the first set of fan leaves were drooping/ curling downward. No nutrients were involved and I used tap water. The seedling is still growing slightly but not as much as I would expect.

So, I need some help from all the hobbyists alike to determine what is going on with my baby.

Thanks

Post a pict so we can see what she looks like. Yes,no nutes yet, so that isn't the problem. Post a pict and we might be able to help you.

This is exactly the same problem I had,

is this bubbleponics? if so at what rate is the water coming out of the tubes?

if it's dwc, where is the water level?

what is the ec of your tap water?

This setup isn't a bubbleponic, it is just DWC. It is a homemade container Holds only 1l of water. Im using an Air stone and air pump, with the bubbles making both the bottom of the cube and the hydroton wet.

One thing I have noticed though with the STG cubes. Light seems to be able to penetrate through the circle opening for the stem. Not to far though. The big thing is that you can't seal the hole like with rockwool. Could this be causing an issue?

Roots hate light so it could be affecting them yes. Can you not just cover it up with a bit of aluminium tape or something?

If it's not the water level it could be the water itself...what is it's ec? If you dont have one you do need to buy an ec/ppm meter really.

Tap water that comes out with an ec of under like 0.1 should have calmag+ added to it to provide the necessary trace elements that are missing due to the water's purity.

well that's odd then, i'm not sure what it could be

if your air temps are 75 max, then your res temps should be fine - but it may be worth checking

other than that all i can say is that when this happened to my seedlings, some rhizotonic and superthrive worked wonders!
