Help save this plant!

We just got this plant from a friend who didn't want to take care of it anymore (It started to wilt a little). I'm not 100% sure of the age, they have had it outside and we live in Canada so it must be over a month and a half old. It stands at 6 1/2" I'm 99% sure it's female. We have gnats in the soil, so we bought new soil last night and switched it over. I don't think we got all the bugs but most of them are gone. We bought scheultz potting soil plus. I knew the pH of the soil was important but the bag doesn't say anything about the pH besides "proper pH balance" will this soil do the job? If not can anymore recommend a better one? I know the plant will need added fertilizers soon enough, I'm a fish hobbyist and I know a thing or two about aquatic plants but I'm sure pot plants are different... I looked up all the nutrients a marijuana plant requires and they are all the same as my aquatic plants need. So I guess my question is, can I use the liquid ferts for my aquatic plants for the marijuana plant? Or should I get another type of fertilizer? Thanks for any advice!!

Ps. Lighting advice? I have a lamp with a maximum 80 watt out put and that's all we have so far. What kind of bulb should we get? Thanks a lot.

I wouldn't use the ferts for aquatic plants. Pick up some Fox Farm Grow Big for veg and Fox Farm Tiger Bloom for bud

If you have sand from the fish tanks put an inch to 2 inches on top of your soil and no more gnats will be able to lay their eggs there and what's in there now will go away soon enough. It'll be fine.

Watch some of these videos on how to grow:

The soil you got is fine, not the best but fine. And any fert for tomatoes is ok like schult or whatever, you don't HAVE to get the expensive stuff, but I wouldn't use a fert designed for aquariums.

are you using a regular incandescent bulb? if so it wont work. you have to get at least a couple of cfls.
I only have a webcam shot, sorry about the quality.

We are using a incandescent bulb when the sun goes down... Lol I'll look into lights today, will any like home hardware store have these bulbs?

Thanks to everyone for the advice about the aquarium ferts. And for suggesting new ferts.

I found out something rather shocking. At my new years party the people who gave us the plant came over and I asked how old the plant was.... 7 months???? 7 months old? Is this possible? The plants 6 1/2" it's got to be dead right?

OregonMeds, really? That's awesome!!! I hate those little bugs. Would the sand be good for nutrients too? I usually use my old fish tank water to water my house plants, I figure it has something good in it and that way I'm not wasting water. Do you think that water would be bad for a pot plant?

Thanks again to everyone, I appreciate all the help!!

(sorry if I didn't attach the photo properly I'll figure it out)

I'm positive it's 7 months, I asked the guy and he said that and I couldn't believe it.

I only have a web cam to take pictures with at the moment, so these are the best quality pictures avaliable.

This little seedling thing is sprouting in the pot with the plant. Is it a weed that came in the soil?

It's had the shit knocked out of it. Jesus christ!

Ummm...

What do you mean you bought a new soil and switched it over?

Did it look this bad when you got it, or did you make it worse?

man that thing has been slapped about. thats domestic violence that is. make sure its properly supported so that its straight up, spray it with bubbly water that gives it extra c02, get some fluorescent lights, they are really cheap and perfect for veg. incandescents wont do, at least not very well!

that plant probably can be saved though. just might take a little time, a little care and a little work.
go for it!

Hahaha  yeah it was in worse condition when we got it. We thought the cat killed it once, but thats really the only time its seen abuse in our care.

The soil had gnats in it so I bought new soil, took the plant out of the old soil and replanted it in the new soil.

It is being supported by a cat tail lol, we really are trying. It's getting kind of top heavy so we'll tie a string and get it a little more perky.

Any thoughts about the new thing thats sprouted? Is it a weed?

Lol, are you serious though? Like how is that even possible? My friend came over and said it was a baby pot plant for sure... But I don't trust him.

no its not pot. lower grade soils can come with viable seeds in them. i found some plants that look like those in my cheap walmart potting soil, i don't know what kind of plant it is though. and don't be so gullible :P.

Lol well thats what I figured. Like... Where the hell would a baby pot plant come from. But I had both my room mates and a friend telling me it looks like a baby pot plant. Lol wishful thinking I guess... An update... The plant looks like shit  It's not really as dried out as it was before so I suppose thats an improvement.
