Hello people,

I'm starting my first grow in a couple of weeks and i got a couple of questions to ask you people,

I have chosen to grow mazar, I will be growing under a 400w HPS and the space will be lined with reflective material,

I will be using the yeast/sugar co2 method,

I have 54 inches of space to grow, i reckon i will have no more than 40 inches to work with once the lights and Pots are in,

What i need to know is, What height should i flower my Mazar at??Has anyone had any experience with this strain? How much did they stretch after you popped them into 12/12?

Also, what would be the best method for me to do?I was thinking about trying a scrog,Is it too complicated for a first grow??If not scrog, has anyone had good results with LST?The main issue for me is height, and burning the tips of the leaves with my hps.

I'll also have a fan or 2 in there,

All help is appreciated!!

i don't have experience with that strain but it looks to be a short, bushy strain - so that is good!

I don't use CO2 - so won't comment.

your reflective material should be that shiny silver gift wrap (not aluminum/tin foil or mirrors). you can also use mylar, panda plastic, and good old flat white paint. whatever you use - the smoother and flatter the better.

if your light is air-cooled (highly recommended for short vertical space), you can get the light pretty close to the tops of your plants - but if it isn't - you will have to keep it pretty far - you should also consider using an MH bulb for vegging - it should give you tighter internodal spacing - which is desirable. but close lights (without burning!) will help get great results too.

any advanced cultivation technique (LST, SCRoG, etc..) is going to be tricky even for someone with grow experience that hasn't done it before. But you can certainly try it out if you want - nothing like trying something to learn! and you have RIU in a pinch.

having fans "in there" is very, very important. Fresh air is one of the pillars for healthy plants so you'll need a way to exhaust the stale, hot and soon to be stinky (in a good way) air. so odor control will become important and better to have a plan rather than scramble once your whole house reeks of weed. you also need a fresh air intake but this can be passive provided your exhaust fan is good. by good i mean it should be able to completely exhaust your grow area at least once a minute - three times a minute is better. This means the CFM rating of your exhaust fan should equal 1 to 3 times the cubic feet (L X W X H) of your grow area.

now as for what height to switch to 12/12 - that is a loaded question as it depends on a few variables. I would plan for the plant to at least double - possibly triple in size after switching to 12/12 - so plan accordingly.

i hope this helps.

First of all, I think email gave you some sound advice. Listen to him. The reason I posted is to encourage you to go for a ScrOG. I am about a week or so away from harvest on my first grow, and I decided to ScrOG it. I was put into a similar situation to yours, with very little vertical space. In order to stuff a 400W HPS in there and grow plants over 2", I had to put a screen down. I also have an air cooled light, which is incredibly important. You can knock out two birds with one stone by running a cool tube through your exhaust. This will allow you to keep your plants comfortable, and not burn them.

Anyway, I think that a ScrOG is your best bet of getting a good yield. Go around and read about the technique, and you will find that it isn't as difficult as you think. It just requires a little bit more attention, not skill. PM me if you have any specific questions, and I will try to help out based on my mistakes as well as my successes.
