Help me choose a light for my first indoor grow....

Hi, I have been growing in the greenhouse the last 2 years and decided to do something indoors over the winter. My partner has made space in the walk-in-wardrobe for me to build a grow box.

the space I have is roughly 4ft high 3ft lenth and 2ft depth, but I can add a bit on or take a bit away as the is more space in there then that.

I will only be growing auto flowering plants (i have the seeds here waiting) and growing in soil. I intend on growing 6 at a time, but posible 9 if the is the space?

Im worryed that if I get a 400w hps my electricity bill is going to be high with the lights on 18/6 but if I only get 250w im worryed it wont be enough for a fat harvest or i wont be able to grow as many at once.

Would I need a cool tube in there for both 250w and 400w or would i only need one with the 400w.

What a are son-e (not sure if its spelt right) bulbs? are they hps or something else? any good?

lucky me its my birthday tommorow! my dad is coming up to see me and we will be going to growell to buy light & ballast, reflector and maby a cool tube.

so any help.advice before then would be greatly aprecated

cost of a 400 watt light will depend on how much your power co charges per kilowatt but running 18 hrs a day should cost you $40-50 a month
needing a cooltube will depend on how well you are vented already but for your size room,I would expect you to need one if you go w/ a 400 watt light.

personally, i have found that Lowrider needs to be started in a deep pot, any time I have started in shallow pots,(even if I transplant to deeper) they dont grow as tall

Thanks :)

just bumping the thread up as im going to growell in about 6 hours! :D
get a 400w hps, how much does the electric company charge you per kilowat hour? 40-50 seems kinda expensive to me(as is i dont think it would cost that, we helped a guy a day or 2 ago figure out how much his 400w hps would cost and we came up with 20-30 a month.) but i guess it all depends on where you live and what you pay for electricity.

I know its really expensive, however I just got rid of a old tv and a pc that was running 24/7 with a 500w PSU so if i get a 400w light i shouldnt notice a price rise.

Im definetly getting a 400w

im so excited!!

I understand that power supplies mostly run at lower than their rated wattage meaning your 500 PS was not always running at full throttle. It depends upon the load that's imposed upon it so it's wattage consumption is always varying. This means that you can't compare costs as well as your thinking.

But screw thoses facts. You and I know that you're going for the 400 watt light purchase no matter what. Yes it's exciting. I'm rooting for you. Keep it safe by coming up with a design to deal with the heat issues. Remember the smell factor too when designing your setup.

I grew lowryder x diesel and they were stinking up the place in 2 months time. mrmadcow's advice about growing these deep to start is good advice!!!
I had the same experience as he did and I just read the same advice online about the strain that being to get these into their final grow pots from seed if possible.

Good luck with your grow. Maybe some pictures when you get growin!

In the end I got a 250w HPS & 2 x 125w blue CFL's due to the smallish space I have, I would have needed a cooltube for the 400w to stop it getting to hot.
