Hi everyone,

I have this Gelato OG that I *think* started stepping into the harvest window. I took those pics with a digital microscope and i think so many trichomes has started turning cloudy. I need your help with:
  1. are those cloudy trichomes around 50 - 70%? should i start the flush preparing for the harvest?
  2. since this is an indica hybrid, should i wait to see few amber trichomes (around 20-30%) so i get the maximum ripeness and harvest at peak?
Thank you all for your much appreciated help

Can you grab a scope pic off the calyx near the top somewhere? And another pic of the whole plant or a top?

I have the same question above about the Norther Lights as well which i think still in the process of turning clear trichomes to cloudy. I just need some expert eyes to confirm my guess..as this is a bit confusing to me ..firsttimer :P Here are the pics for the Northern Lights.. i think most of trichomes are still clear or transitioning to cloudy.

You can never depend on just cloudy trichomes, you will get false readings, I have used the scope and saw everything was cloudy, and said 'oh, time to chop!' and found out after I was weeks ahead. It is better to look at the whole plant, make sure all your pistils have almost all turned color, your plant should be near the end of its life cycle. Check the trichomes on the Calyxs'. The calyxs' should all be swollen and have two orange hairs sticking out, white is too early, brown is too late. orange is just right.. They appear to my eyes to be transitioning from clear to cloudy, your hairs all look good, my initial take was incorrect, these have a while to go yet.

@PioneerValleyOG exactly...the Gelato is further ahead of the Northern Lights. Your input is very helpful guys thankyou.
I will send pics of the calyxes soon as you asked. I am looking for 60% : 40%, head buzz to body high. So I guess i will need some amber trichomes for this effect. Question: let's say i started flushing wile almost all trichomes cloudy, will some turn amber during flushing? I don't think the plant needs to be fed for this..right?

I cannot condone flushing however yes the trichomes will continue to mature.

To flush or not to flush...
One of the most heated and frequently discussed topics!!
The search function is your friend! There will be dozens (if not hundreds) of threads on the topic. (And you'll still not get a go/no go answer)
I personally am in the 'fade' camp.
Good luck with your grow,
WillieP

I thought it is a must :/

It is said that it is really easy to harvest to early, and really hard to harvest to late.
That's a beautiful plant and it would be a shame not to let her reach her full potential. A large percentage of your overall bud weight will be added at the very end of the grow.
Flushing is considered a must by some, and by others it is considered completely unnecessary and a detriment to the way the plant finishes. That will be up to you to research.
Again, Good Luck!

I am in the no flush group, just taper off your nutes toward the end but don't starve the poor girls. That's just my opinion. Flushing is not for the plants, it is for the medium to remove salt buildups. As for the trichomes, here are some pics to help you along.

@Wizzlebiz OHHHH, you don't flush??! I thought it is a must so taste is not affected ^^ can you elaborate why?
I am so sorry I just won't get into it. It is a back and forth heated debate that I dont want to deal with.

But I will say this. Starving your plants right at the end of they're life to rid the BUDS of nutrients is silly. Others can elaborate on that lol

Yes I would agree, you can still see the clear trikes on the calyx, where the other pics are milky on other parts of the plant, it makes a big difference, definitely a week take some more pics and we'll take a look.

It has been my experience that flushing will not affect the maturing or coloration process of the trichomes. I usually switch to just water for the last 7-10-14 days depending. Mostly on weather.

Looking good @Vdxiii but I'd like to see a couple of photos taken from the side to show the colas vertically. From what I can see in post #13, there are plenty of white pistils and those buds haven't fattened up yet. You want to see those pistils turn brown/red and shrivel back into the buds. You'll see the calyces fatten up and the colas may start leaning from weight. Combine that with all cloudy and few amber trichs and you'll chop at peak.
