Hello!
I'm back for more of this. No heli's finding my shit. No eradicated plants this year. No mess-ups. (Mess-ups)
I've all my plots planned out, more to come as well most likely. None of them have been dug, none of the soil, amendments, nor fertilizers have been bought. But this will all be done in the next two days :hump: And it will be a lot of work.:-? But then much reward:hump:
So...
Plant Strain - GDPxBubbleGumxSomeRandomBagseed
Soil For Plants - 45% Premier Peat Moss 45% Native Soil 8-9% Perlite 1-2% Sunleaves Peruvian Seabird Guano. Yum.
Food For Plants Sunleaves Guanos. Peruvian Seabird (10-10-2) as an amendment. Mexican Bat (10-2-1) Veg Feed. Jamaican Bat (1-10-0.2) as Flower Feed.
Containers No such thing. In the ground. Holes about 2-3 sq ft.
Number of Holes 18.
Approximate Initial $ Amount 8x 3.5 cu.ft. bails of Peat Moss - ~$80, 6x 2.2lb bag Seabird Poop ~$60, Shovel ~$12, Bush Knife ~$35, Hatchet ~$30 ...so about $220. Not too bad if I get 5-10 lbs. Oh yeah.. Irish Spring and Mothballs. *I really hate polluting the land at all, and I feel these two things are probably pretty gross chemically, but man do they work to prevent deer and other critters, maybe I'll find a way to keep it from seeping into the ground too much..* prob. around $20 for those.
Alright. So where I'm at right now is I have two sexed plants that are each about 18 inches high with plenty of clone sites, but not quite enough yet, so I'll probably have a later start than I'd like, but that's whatever, my plant that I'd put out in late July last year yielded 5 ounces after being broken by deer or a storm. And as stated above, I have nothing done to my outdoor plots except that I've located them...which is a lot of work in a place that is nearly 80% housing.
Oh! and I have a long-time buddy helpin' me out this year, so that will (quite literally) be a load off my back.
That's all for now! Hope we all have an excellent season. Grow happy and respect the land.
I'll supply many pictures once I get things rollin'
Peace.

Good to see you back TSMD, and excited you're in the PA growers thread. Can you guess where I'm from? haha, But i aint scurred. Have a great season dude i'll make sure to check back! Hey, hit up my thread from last year if you feel up to it and throw some advice my way if you're so inclined, peace.

Glad to be back. Glad to see people in my area, I used to be Real shaded out about putting up my location, and I still wont get more specific than Pa, but in reality...there were At Least 4 other ops within a 15 mile radius of where mine was. No way of anyone pinpointing anything to you, unless you're at your plants giving them care. And this year...they just will not be finding mine:hump: I'll be sure to check out your past grow, love to see fairly local grows. Best of luck to you as well.
sounds like a plan dude, good luck with that grow....
Thanks, bruddah!

So I go to work, shortly after that last post. And what do I know...my manager called me off without me knowing. Buns cause I'm out of 8 hours of work. AWESOME cause I'm getting about 8 hours of much more profitable work(you know the kind). Word. So I'ma fix up my car for a bit and then I'll be out diggin' for mad hours. Maybe get some pic-tutorial of my trials clearing and diggin' this year, cause it'll be different than last. Aight bruddahs and sistahs, 2011 grow season commence!:hump:

Hey guys im subbed for this one. Greenthumb I checked out your last years grow, real motivational thanks for the link. I got me a guerrilla grow going this year but its my first one so im kind of paranoid about making a journal. As of now I have 35 starters all about a week old and im most likely going to have some questions along the way so if you guys dont mind this seems like a good place to ask. Good luck in your grows and ill be following along.

No problem, glad you liked my thread. If you have any questions just private message me, and im pretty sure TSMD wouldnt have a problem answering you either. I just make the point to PM cause some guys don't like people clogging their threads with tons of quesions, i dont mind it but obviously I cant speak for everyone else. Fo the most part we love to help though. Peace.

Damn. Twice RIU didn't post what I intended to post. First time I got signed out...but the second time... Iunno what happened.
Anywho, to paraphrase again :

noo1knows - Good to see you starting up. Don't feel pressured into posting your own grow. We do it to compare and contrast, to support each other, (some people) talk shit on each other, I like to see what methods bring what results (or failures), it's an okay way to keep track of your grow and watch yourself and what mistakes or successes you'd made. If you wanna be super safe, and still share with everyone, keep a journal on your own PC or even a notebook, and keep a folder for all the pictures. Then, once you harvest, you can compile a nice post-by-post thread to document what you've done and to show off and see what kind of feedback you get.
Always got my best wishes. Happy Growings.

Guerilla update: Nada!...hehe. I got all my Peat, got all my Seabird Guano, and then my garden at home caught my eye. It was itchin' to be finished. And all my baby herbs, veggies, and flowers - itchin' to be planted. So some serious scratchin' was done and 5 hours later, I was kind of beat, and the sun was nearly setting. So hopefully I'll get out a little bit today after work, and def. tuesday and wednesday - rain or shine...since it likes to rain Every Fucking Day I Have Off Work. Pain in the ass... though I'll be hoping for all that rain later.

'Nother note - I'm thinking about doin' and au naturel type grow with the few pure GDPxBubblegum seeds I have left. I want to make pots out of weaved vines or grasses or something maybe chiseled out rocks, for the seedling stage. I want to use all native soil - probably will collect topsoil from a lot of areas. No shovel, unless I make one from a piece of wood and cut stone or bone. No chisel (<---- will be cutting stone the old fashioned way...with another stone.) Probably will use deer poop for fertilizer, also might find a tree or something where lots of birds hang out, and use the soil underneath (bird guano, basically). Will clone, using willow branch as a rooting hormone. And pretty much see how barebones I can get. I will prob start to do this soon. Especially if I'm gonna be cloning.

Thanks for the support, I'm one to want to go "off the grid" some day, so I'm trying to acquire as much ancient knowledge as possible, in case any resources I have fail or run up. Not to mention it's impressive to see what early humans could accomplish and try to mimic that, truly magnificent and powerful creatures, we were (some still are), I, for one, would love to be like that. Though, most people have lost touch with that idea.
Hope all goes well for you and your plants. Keep safe. Happy Growth.

Update.
Was diggin' for a few hours yesterday, in the rain, and I got myself quite sick. Not to mention the Lyme symptoms that I've had for the past few days. Can hardly move my right wrist, and boy is it painful when I do. But I'm used to all that Lyme pain, so I dig anyway. Got 10 holes dug.
I was thinking while I was out there, that I should just dig extra holes, in the case that the Heli's come and take my shit again. Originally I planned only 5 per plot, with 3 or 4 plots. On top of that, I'll probably start some clones around the beginning of July, to be even more prepared for disaster. And, if they don't find my babies, I can just put 5 more in each plot after they're done surveying the area, which last year was in July. So they'll still have a good bit of growing left to do. Had some pics of the girls and a new bubble-cloner that I'd made, but this computer doesn't have a card reader. Gotta find my laptop and hopefully I'll have some pics up.
End Transmission.

I got to thinkin' how poorly my old bubbler worked, so I decided to build a new one. There's always enough random shit around my house to make things like these, which is great. Pic 1 - the bin I decided to use, it was clear so I tried to spraypaint it, which was quite a waste of time. Even after 3 coats it was still too translucent for my liking, so I covered the bottom half of it in electrical tape, much better. Pic 2 - Random plastic sheets I found around, I imagine they can be bought at any arts&crafts store. Pic 3 - Side shot of the plastic sheet, it's great cause it leaves and area for water to collect and saturate the foam inserts that hold the clones. Pic 4,5 - cut and inserted, this thing was a bitch to cut, it's not normal rubbermaid material, had to use a dremel and a file. Pic 6 - Not quite a tight fit, so I'm concerned about light gettin through, but we'll see. Pic 7 - Heating pad, big upgrade from my last one. Pic 8, 9 - Air stones, 9 works much better than 8, so look for this kind when you get 'em. Pic 10 - Foam camping mat used for clone holders. Pic 11, 12 - Cut to squares, then shaped, then slit to hold the clones nice. Pic 14 - Tray all finished. Pic 15,16 - Bubbles.
Not many tools required, and could be done with less. Used a Dremel to cut slits for the plastic sheet, used a file to make it the right size. Used a drill to make holes for the air hoses. And electric tape to keep the light out.
I did it the way I did because it has a lid, so it's essentially making a nice humidity box as well. However, I went to check the clones today and they weren't in the best shape, which I figured was due to low oxygen/carbon dioxide (gas) exchange. So I'm gonna put some slits in the side or top.
mmhmm.

Hey, that's cool that you're going native, so to speak. When everything has been provided by Nature for us to use, there's no need to spend much.

The soil here is naturally acidic so I have to sweeten it each year. Using 45% peat moss in your mix, do you also add lime to raise the ph?

subbed

Edit: It just occurred to me the soil where you are is naturally acidic too. Now I'm REALLY curious if you sweeten it, lol!

^^ Haven't thus far, maybe this year I'll give it a shot. But my previous successes were reached without the use of pH adjustments, and my plants showed no stress, no lack in growth rate, no deficiencies of any sort.
Pic 1 - A shot of my best one last year. Amended with the aforementioned Peat Moss, Blood Meal, Bone Meal, nothing more. This is about July 1, so only 50 days of growin' outside, and she was already 6 ft. If she'd gone til mid-to-late October, she would have at least been a 12 ft, 5 lb monster.
Pic 2 - A shot of my worst plant last year. Not amended with any Peat Moss, but about the same levels of Blood and Bone Meal.
I'm pretty sure the Peat Moss does wonders when combined with most native soils. Just my opinion.

Not too sure how close the clones are, never submerged for sure. I'd say about 1/4 inch.
From what I hear, All poppies are 'the good kind'. These are called Danish Flag, the attached picture below is of them. Beautiful flower.

I agree, peat moss is a good thing.
It's real acidic though and usually needs an alkaline substance to balance the ph. The blood and bone meal you used last year did just that. They're my preference too. I only add (slow release) lime after the end of the season.

My curiosity was sparked by the combo you're using this year.

'Soil For Plants - 45% Premier Peat Moss 45% Native Soil 8-9% Perlite 1-2% Sunleaves Peruvian Seabird Guano'.

I've never tried to grow with a ph lower than 6.7, so you can imagine how excited I am to watch their progress!
