Heat stress problems?

Hey whats up fellow growers,

Ok here's my scenario. I live in Fl and my trailer gets HOT. I live in a manufactured home and you know they are like sardine cans. My central air does not keep my house cool and it never shuts off (i can't afford that). Therefore i can't keep my AC on at all times. I run it when the sun starts to go down but during the day (when im at work) it usually stays around 85 degrees and 88 to 90 in my grow room. I've had successful grows when it was cold last year. One in a 35 gallon rubbermaid dwc setup with outstanding results but when i tried for the second attempt I couldn't keep the water temps down and it became an epic fail so im moving to dirt (for now)


Im running a 400w hps lamp in a small bathroom. I plan on doing six plants in 5gallon buckets in the shower.
im using cutting edge solutions 3 part lineup with the extras
purple #1 strain i got from a friend.
medium= garden soil + perlite + peat moss
tap water ph'd to around 7 (I don't have accurate meter i use the bottle colors)

as you can see i only have a small window that folds open and i have it sealed shut. The only ventilation i have is from the central air on the floor by the toilet. in this pick i have a cfl contraption i rigged up (just for pics and to help with heat while im at work). thinking of using them though for now during veg. i have 8x 23w cfl and 1x 155w for veg and 8x 23w for flowering (can't remember what spectrum is what at the moment (but yeah the veg ones are white light and the flower yellow light)).

anyhow the problem is that i took the clones from the mother. I was impatient and didn't let all roots come through the rockwook but i did open them up and they all had at least a few small roots (plus i took small clones). So i planted them in soil. I never had clones turn yellow on me except for now. They really haven't been doing anything. but they are turning yellow and all plants in the shower have leaf edges that are cupping up (is that from heat?). The two biggest clones are actually starting to grow i think and the roots have stretched but im worries about the others (and i have some of the fans leaves hooking down).

what do you think i can do about my heat issue? In about a month and a half it will be cool enough outside so i won't have to worry but in the meantime ?

Your plants are actually looking very healthy considering the temps you are putting them thru! The larger ones look like they are borderline between IDEAL & TOO MUCH Nitrogen. I would prob ease up on your feeding schedule til they develop a bit more. You don't want to start burning those lush green leaves! Keep it up, and make sure to use oscillating fans & cool misting/dilluted foliar feeding as a means to help cool your plants, displace heat from them, and create an overall better enviornment.

I lived in FL for 5 years so I know exactly what you're going thru temp wise. I miss those warm winters!

As a temporary solution increase the CO2 concentration to allow the plants to better tolerate the heat (temps up to the mid 90's), a simple sugar/yeast generator should do the trick but you'll need more than the single 2 liter bottle setup. Added benefit is faster growth and (typically) shorter inter-node distance. Check the freon in your A/C, sounds low...

If I use a couple of the C02 sources would it be less than me using the ac vent for fresh air (C02), the AC is on the outside of house and supplies fresh air almost to that bathroom first. I guess what im really asking is does using a few of the 2 liter contraptions even make any difference when u actually do have at least a little venting?...........excuse me I'm Zoinked

Any amount of additional CO2 is beneficial, a/c systems are actually closed systems and will provide cooling (which will help) but not much fresh air though in practice they are seldom "really" sealed. I use 4x 1gallon sugar/yeast CO2 generators to increase CO2 concentration to 1200-1800ppm though my grow space is (mostly) sealed. If you discharge the CO2 directly above the plants they should receive some benefit before it dissipates, your mileage may vary. If you have access to cooling/fresh air, go that way but adding the CO2 won't hurt. I have a 12sec video of the output of my CO2 but it's 23MB, check youtube as there are similar videos there. Just don't think you are limited to a 2 liter setup, I've seen 15 gallon sugar/yeast CO2 generators, scale it to fit your need. No worries, please don't hesitate to ask, happy to help if I can.

Thanks for the info man. I will increase the c02 lvl and see if that helps. I actually had a few of those things from when i did a closet grow. Time to pull them out the closet lol. One quick question though. You said hang them over the plants..is C02 heavier than air?
