Hash plant, GG#4, and Maui Waui 1600w hempy perpetual garden ridin on a fantastic voyage

Ola. Bought a house 2 years ago and I've been acquiring equipment constantly in an effort to setup a perpetual garden to supply my own needs as well as the needs of 5 patients I assist. I think I'm finally at a point where I don't really need anymore equipment (yet), and I'm focusing on optimizing my existing setup to maximize yields and productivity. My goal is to hit 2LBS per harvest with 1600W of top shelf. My previous cycle was done with 1200w and only hit 1LB. It was all top shelf but 1LB is 1LB and that's not enough when you're burning 1200w 12 hours a day for 9-10 weeks.

I ran a strain that isn't a large producer and I poorly utilized a scrog net. Mostly I blame the strain. I also ran the genetics into the ground. I ran clones cut from clones for 4 cycles in a row losing a little more luster each time. I saw the problem happening and did nothing. That is my own lazy fault. I have decided to flower out this batch of GG#4 and I have taken no cuts and presently have no gg4 clones in my veg or clone tent. Anyhow, enough background. Let's get to the meat and potatoes here!

I'm running 5 gallon black hempy buckets with #4 chunky mother earth perlite as my medium. My nutrients are general hydroponics maxi grow in veg and maxi bloom in flower. The only supplement I add is floralicous plus which is protein hydrolysate and sea kelp. Good stuff. No bloom boosters or any voodoo juices.

Here is my clone bucket I made and currently have 4 maui waui cuts I took off a plant that had been flowering for 4 weeks. You can see the developed buds on the cuttings. And you can also see I had no problem cloning them. These were cut 5 or 6 days ago and already have roots. Another 5 days and they'll be ready for 32 ounce styrofoam hempy cups. One of them just has the little baby nubs growing, but by tomorrow it will have some hairy legs like the other 3.

And the veg tent. What you see here are 6 hash plant feminized ladies and 3 random bag seeds I grew for shits and grins that turned out female. Mystery bud! Woohoo!
The 3 random bag seed were started about a month earlier than the hash plant which is why you see the big disparity in size. I'm transferring the 3 large unknowns into the clone tent tomorrow and relocating the clone bucket into the veg tent with the hash plant ladies. That way the 3 large lovely ladies can spread out a bit more in their own space without shading my smaller hash plants. If you're smarter than me and start all of your ladies at the same time you won't run into such issues :)

RIU only let's me attach 10 pics per post, so the show must continue into post #2....

The veg tent has an 8 bulb t5 that works beautifully. $180 total. I'm not sold on LED one bit. Had a guy recommend an LED unit he thought would look great in my tent and when I looked it up it was $700. I laughed and moved on with my life. The only people LED is good for is the people selling them as far as I'm concerned. Can they grow good flowers? Yes, but at what cost over conventional lighting? I'm happy the math works for some people, but I am not one of those people.

And the flower room that presently houses one 1000w HPS hortilux light powered by a phantom II digital ballast in a yield master air cooled hood. Next to that is a 600w HPS hortilux powered by a 600w phantom II digital ballast in a hood similar to the yield master. Eventually I will upgrade my 600w to a 1000w. I just added the 1000w. One upgrade at a time I will build a dope growing masterpiece :)

20200213_180408.jpg 20200213_180419.jpg 20200213_180424.jpg 20200213_180432.jpg 20200213_180355.jpg 20200213_180342.jpg 20200213_180329.jpg 20200213_180325.jpg 20200213_180256.jpg <<<notice the gorgeous purple in the maui pics. 20200213_180317.jpg

The flower room has another 5 weeks to go until the chop and things are looking great. The maui is indica dominant and grows short and squatty and produces heavy yields from the breeder's description. The smell that comes off the sugar leaves is strange and unique like nothing I've ever smelled. Floral with notes of citrus and fruit. Just beautiful plant! And with that you can see why I absolutely had to clone this lady even 4 weeks into flower. I quickly realized what I was about to lose if I didn't get a viable clone, and I was not about to let that happen :) With my 4 rooted clones up above she will be gracing my garden for quite some time moving forward. I intend to grow out 2 large mothers for future cloning.

I don't pretend to have any advanced cultivation skills. I'm just a white boy that likes to smoke good fucking dope and bring in a little extra $$ into the household providing it to my 5 patients. Grow on and stay tuned for semi daily updates!

Also, some pics of my equipment and setup. Nothing too fancy, but everything I need to be functional and maintain a perpetual grow with 3 different stages of growth.

20200207_191327[1].jpg Veg and clone tent. ventilation is linked
20200207_191314_HDR[1].jpg Fertilizer / supplies station with blender for mixing dry fertilizer 100% into solution with no fallout
20200205_183420_HDR[1].jpg More exciting supplies and Milwaukee MW102 PH meter
20200207_191434_HDR[1].jpg 8 bulb T5 specs
20200207_191357_HDR[1].jpg Pretty bulbs glowing...and only $520 more to have the same thing in LED. All I'm saying...
20200126_184906[1].jpg Flower room reservoir with 25' garden hose, 1/4 hp water pump attached to hose in reservoir, and water wand with remote on / off switch for ease of use. Fuck hauling 5 gallon buckets anymore.
20200205_174311[1].jpg Cute little pump. Thank you amazon
20200207_191126_HDR[1].jpg And more flower room supplies. Blue lab PH meter, truncheon tds / ec meter, and the various goodies you see. 35% H202 added at 3ml /gallon to my veg and flower reservoirs. I have not had a reservoir go rancid since I began using h202. I will not grow without it again. However, you can not use h202 in your clone bucket if you plan to establish any roots. I learned this the hard way and lost an entire batch of clones which has never happened to me before. I discontinued the h202 in my next clone bucket and had no issues. For some reason clones do not like the h202 at all when establishing new roots. And that's the whole tamale. I have 2 inline fans that vent my air cooled hoods in the flower room. Why 2? 1 is a redundant backup. Assume 1 will fail at some point and assume you don't want to either A) lose a whole crop B) burn your house down, or C) lose a whole crop and burn your house down. Think ahead and plan for the worst. All fans are destined to fail at some point. I will always run 2 inline fans in my hood vent system. Safety first.

And I just had my neighbor electrician install that 4 outlet receptacle you see running off of my electric panel. That is an independent 20 amp circuit on the left top and bottom plug and an independent 20 amp circuit on the right side top and bottom plug. My grow lights in the flower room now run on their own circuit. And I have an extra 20 amp circuit on the right hand side I can use when I add a portable AC unit. Future expansion :)

Update. I took down the 4x4x6' tent that the clone bucket was in and put up a 5x5x6.5' tent. I then relocated the 3 over grown mystery females to the 5x5 and relocated the clone bucket to the veg tent. Very plush. Also replaced a bad electric receptacle and did a little rewiring. Long overdue and I can now breathe easier. Pics pics pics....

Here are the 3 mystery females now spreading out in the 5x5 all by their lonely selves...

20200214_165501[1].jpg 20200214_165457[1].jpg
And the veg tent with my 6 hash plants and clone bucket. I took 6 or 7 hash plant cuttings today and have something like 14 total clones in the bucket presently. Hoping to have them all rooted and in cups within the next 10 days. The 4 maui's will be ready to transplant in the next 4 or 5 days.

20200214_165433[1].jpg
Lots of cuttings in this little bucket....what are ya gonna do? Grow on
20200214_165429_HDR[1].jpg
And a bird's eye of the veg tent. I realized today I bought 2 different sized saucers and 2 different sized plant elevators. After my next harvest I plan to standardize the sizing of my saucers and elevators. Having everything uniform allows you to fit things into a small space much more effectively and efficiently.

I'll get some pics of the flower room tonight....

Flower pic updates just finishing week 4. About 4-5 weeks to go. I will be adding epsom salt to the next water cycle on all plants. I think the 1000W light is pushing my girls harder than I'm accustomed to requiring a tweaking of my usual fertilizer regimen. I added extra nitrogen on the last 2 water cycles and it seemed to help a bit. I'll report back if the epsom salt helped. It certainly can't hurt :)

I just realized these were poor pics. I'll do better tomorrow...

My apologies for the lack of updates, but as life goes shit has been busy.
T minus 13 days to harvest right at a cool 70 days since the flip. This is the first flower cycle I have ever grown with a 1000w lamp, and it's growing substantially larger flowers than I have ever seen come out of my grow room, and it's no thanks to my skill I can assure you. If you're on the fence about doing a 1000w or a 600w get the 1000w and you won't regret it. I have about 50-60 support strings with plastic coated paper clips holding up my larger buds and 30 or so plant yo yo's. This will be my largest harvest I have grown, and I'm stoked to get the final dry weight. I'm shooting for 1.5#. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.
20200307_205135.jpg 20200307_205015.jpg

And the veg tent with hash plant and maui waui clones. The re veg on the maui clones is going great. The buds are slowly fragmenting apart into foliage. Trippy to see.
20200307_205526.jpg
And a bud shot
20200308_201602.jpg

I'll take pics with lights off tomorrow just before lights on. The hps makes pics hard to see clearly.

Updated flower pics with my terrible camera. I've run the same strain 4 cycles in a row now and since replacing one of my 600's with a 1000 I've noticed the density of the flowers is absolutely rock hard and they're much larger than they've ever been in my previous cycles. If you're on the fence about getting a 600 or 1000 just get the 1000 and never look back. I'll see if I can snap some better pics. They come down a week from this Saturday. I have a heavy duty dehumidifier in the room running on high 24 hours a day and I can barely keep the humidity below 50%. The canopy is thicker than I've ever seen before. Stoked to see what the dry weight is when it's all said and done.

5 days to go until the chop. I'll snap some pics before the light comes on tomorrow. I just bought 2 monster hydrofarm drying nets to make harvest day a little easier.

I hit 2 lbs 4 grams dry with 8 plants. 28 ounces top shelf 4 ounces small buds. I achieved my goal thanks to the upgrade from 2 600w lights to a 1000w and a 600w. In the transition I ordered another 1000w cali ballast with a 3 year warranty for $120. I just couldn't cough up another $225 for a phantom II. So far the cali ballast is performing well.

I expect to hit 2.5lbs on my next harvest. I may have to add an ac unit if temps exceed 82. Currently temps with 2x 1000w is 77. There is simply no comparison between the performance output of a 600w versus a 1000w.

Just took a peak at your journal. Nice work! You're exactly right about a perpetual grow being a second job. I spend more time with my garden than with my wife, but it's all for a good cause :)

In my current flower cycle I've got 6 hash plant ladies I grew from seed feminized from a euro seed bank and 3 random bag seeds. Strange mix, right? Anywho, her are some current pics at week 1 of flower.

I hear ya, nice lights, Gavita? Do you possibly have any pics of the hash plants as they grew I have two Morracan Beldia Kif in solo cups now, seem like fast growers, would love to hear your thoughts on them as you have worked it I am assuming with the Maui. This is actually first grow ever from seed.

Thanks. They are 1000w hortilux lamps with one powered by a phantom II digital ballast and the other powered by a cali branded ballast I went cheap on, because it was half the price of the phantom and I'm tight on cash right now. I can't remember who manufactures the cali branded ballasts, but it's a large conglomerate company. Seems solid with a 3 year warranty in case it takes a crap, but most certainly not manufactured to the same high quality tank like construction of the phantom II. You get what you pay for.

I do. The vegetative pictures above are all hash plant clones with the exception of 2 maui's. They both grow very similarly in structure. Short bushy growth with tight nodes. Great for an indoor garden maximizing space. I also have some other veg pics I'll find and upload. I'm looking forward to see what the flower structure and growth looks like. I've been growing gg#4 for over a year now exclusively out of pure laziness to source anything else, and I'm tired of seeing gg#4 growing. I'm ready for something fresh.

Most of them took the transition to the flower room nicely, but a couple are not loving the intensity. I'm gonna dial that side down to 750w for a week as the ladies get use to their new home. I had to do the same thing with the gg#4, but on both lights. For some reason my 3 bag seed and 4 of my hash plants are loving the lights just fine. What can ya do? Dial it down a bit for 7 days. I'll report back with those pics later. I gotta hop on the roof and do a roof repair around my chimney. Good times :)

Very nice, same here on th GG4 want to see some of the stuff grow that we had in early 80’s before the started crossing all the bubble gum x cotton candy x fruit loops hybrids that fill the dispensaries with dry hard lava rock buds that grind into powder.
Think I just scored 3 new gavita 1200’s buddy is starting back up and I’m giving him half dozen GG4 veged to 3’ tall for his extra lights . Took two cuts off the purplest stemmed twisting leaf bitch I could find for a new mother.

Gavita makes top shelf gear. Nice score! I recently traded some clones for 2 LED bloom lights. I'm pretty blown away by the intensity when I'm standing underneath of one. These definitely ain't the LED's I grew up with in the 90's. I'm thinking of using one in a 2 plant mother tent to feed my perpetual garden. I actually think I just decided I'm putting up my extra 4x4x7 today in the basement and setting up my gear for a new mother station :)

My plans were to keep maui waui and hash plant as mothers. I'm second guessing the hash plant though. Maui is a lock. Just a gorgeously unique plant that grows squatty and yields generously. I'll decide if I'm keeping hash plant as a mother after I harvest and get a chance to smoke some of what's flowering currently. I just don't know if it's the same hash plant I smoked years ago that was sweet and heavy hitting. I would sure love to run across the same cut of blue dream I grew 4 or 5 years ago. She was sativa dominant with long serrated leaves and leggy branches. Those clones produced the finest smoke I've ever had the pleasure of burning, and I've not been able to find the same genetics since. She is my unicorn :)

By the way, those gavita LED rigs are some sexy pieces of machinery. At $1k/unit they're out of my price range these days, but when manufacturing costs come down I will definitely ditch HID's. In 10 years HID will be a thing of the past in indoor horticulture. Just gotta wait for the manufacturing costs to come down.
