Has anyone use miracle grow moisture control soil?

I have 4 little plants right now in dixie cups, and I am trying to get everything together for the move to their bigger homes.
Are 10" plastic pots big enough?
And anyways I wanted to know if anyone has tried or knew anything about miracle grows moisture control soil? I need a soil that I can pick up at Orchard supply, lowes, home depot, etc. And the bag says it helps control soil from getting too wet or too dry which could be good since this is going to be my first grow.
It also says it has fertilizers for 3 months, which would be nice, then maybe I could just supplement a little with something else.
What do you guys think?

Yea dude, its been 3.5 weeks and it is my first too, but it seems to be working quite well and I picked up a huge like 42 quart bag of it from home depot for only 12 or so bucks

Yeah, I've got some. I'd say it's in the "tolerable" range of premixed soils.

The moisture feature is great, but the added nutrients suck. Plants often show nute deficiencies, yet adding more nutrients can result in over-nuting.

I don't like this soil, but I've used worse.

It tests at a pretty neutral pH though.

really, any soil is good..even the cheap shit...its not like they are going 2 sell soil that kills your plants..
but that has miracle gro in it so you DONT have to give any nutrients for atleast 2months..

Yeah, I mean one problem I ran into with miracle grow is nutrient burn, cause I didn't realized miracle grow had nutes in it, so I was also giving the plants plant food and a few of my plants showed a little nutrient burn, so If you do end up getting miracle grow give only tiny doses of extra nutrients - at least half as much as the plant food bottles recommend

The biggest problem with them is the time-release nutrients. If you mess up with too many nutes and decide to flush - you end up releasing more of those nutes every time you add water.

mmm - not neccesarily, thats what the moisture control feature is supposed to do... I donno, I think miracle grow is fine soil.

Worst soil ever, read the posts on that soil having fungus knat's in it. You can get Premier or a similar brand of pro mix potting mix from the local orchard shop. $5 for 16 dry quarts, this stuff is superb. Also if you want moisture control you don't need an "advanced crystal" just read more posts on this site, there are a myriad of organic options, my favourite is a brick sized packages of coconut husk pieces, about $3 at the orchard shop, just break them up by hand, and mix them in with the soil, they will hold the moisture until the soil is ready to accept it.

on my bag of pro mix it says

Sphagnum peat moss 80% by vol, perlite, vermiculite and limestone make up the rest. No soil, but looks exactly like it and performs way better.

i think moisture control keeps the soil moist longer so you dont have to water so often..i could be wrong

I used that exact soil on my first grow, it worked fine, good even. It wont give you the tastiest buds in the world however, since they use non organic nutes premixed in the soil. I go all organic from now on.

not quite, it holds excess moisture and releases it into the soil as needed when the moisture is wicked away from it's surface. So it actually holds the soil at a certain moisture content while there is more than enough water to go around, of course if you don't water for 2 weeks your plants will still die. btw the coconut husks are made up of hairs, so have a supernatural wicking ability.

Pro Mix is considered soilless, there is no soil in it. It works better than that Miracle Grow crap except it becomes acidic if you overwater it too many times

its ok if you cant affored good quality soil....you just warter and use a high PH warter to get all of the acity stuff out of MG....but over all its newbi soil..
