Harvesting for cooking hash/tincture, etc

I've been searching for this and can't find it, so I'm asking. thanks.

I've always cut my plants branch by branch & hung them, then trimmed. OH, and threw away the fan leaves........

But, in reading about making hash last year, I found that the entire plant is used by a lot of folks and I can't find a single thread on it this week. So, I need to know what to do.

1st, I do you dry it? I can't keep it frozen. Don't even have a deep freezer, just a top freezer to a refrigerator. (if I make tincture hash, I can freeze enough to use)

So, do I use ALL the leaves? Even if there are yellow ones? And, do I use both buds and leaves? I've seen where people just use leaves and I can't imagine it being strong enough (my husband doesn't want to trim this year. He doesn't do a good job anyway, so I end up doing it.....He leaves too much and too large of a bud to put in a pipe!.I love his help *he doesn't use cannabis*, but when he refuses to do it right, ....well... I trim the buds into nice, pipe-sized, ready-to-smoke buds).

Anyway, I know I'm missing questions, so I'll take any help I can get.

thanks!
