Harvesting Cracked Seeds. What the ...?!

I'm breeding several strains outdoors in the bay area and on one plant EVERY seed I picked was cracked at the usual "crack seam". I'll get the scientific word later. Anyone know why? I'm thinking it might be the seasons are getting wetter and the seeds are sitting in their seed pods getting wet and starting to open. Sound plausible? (as mythbusters would say).
Other ideas? It's a weird problem. :wall:
