Yes that would work (veg part), You'd have to keep the light pretty close. I used to do the same until i found out how much faster they grow under the 400w with a MH bulb. I wouldn't use the fluorescent light to flower especially if you have a HPS light.

Well, I'm just starting with cloning but I believe that mh light can be a little bit too much for clones, even the clf are meant to be far for rooting. And if you want to keep mums you may not want them to grow that fast.

There are people who do it as you say, veg with clf and flower with hps, they'll grow slower as said by wrussian but you won't have to deal with the high temps, it really depends what you want but yes, it can be done.

I grew mine under t5's and they did pretty well, albeit slowly as others have said. I grew most to about 8-10" and it took around 2 months, but that included some topping.

I did not flower them, only veg long enough to go outside.

I use nothing but t-5 panels in my veg room. They work great and for me, the plants grow plenty fast. I also augment my HPS systems with t-5's in flower (red spectrum bulbs), the set-up is 3 x 600w HPS, 2 x 4' x 8 tube t-5 panels.

Good luck, Farmer Rich

i'm currently vegging under a 600w HPS supplemented with fluoro tubes and cfl for a good mixed spectrum. Good growth so i may continue in the future. Did it b/c i couldn't afford a decent MH bulb at the time.

I use flouros for my veg room and they work just fine but the growth is notably slower than when using a MH setup, but until I can afford to replace my MH ballast, this is how it will be. Lince makes a good point when saying that you might not want your mothers to grow too fast. Unless they are very healthy, they will be stressed, and stressed mothers produce thin, lanky growth, which makes for weak clones. When my veg ballast burned out and I put the flouros in, I was really amazed at how much less heat they put out, and I'm still getting nice green leefy veg growth but even with all that being said... I miss my MH rig.
