growing outside for the first time?

Hey I'm growing outside for the first time and I'm using this cali weather for the fuel but wanted to know what do I risk planting in the ground soil?? I was going to dig a 1x1 ft hole and put fox farm soil in there and put the clones in the several holes ill make? Just curious? Cause I know ph levels,overheating, draing could be a problem?
