Growing outdoor rate in the ground?

Next few weeks ill be starting to grow northern lights outdoor rate in the ground. I got the seeds I just need to get the soil ready. I'm gonna use two spots a farmers field and an open spot in a forest. The soil in both is about average what you see in southern Canada. Please tell me some products or anythign you got that will get me started. I'll put some pics up if I get good advice.

You will probably need to put up a fence to stop animals from eating your plants.
you can use chicken wire or fishing string.
