Growing in Brazil!!

Hey all, I am new to growing and to these forums aswell, so yeah, Hi!

Anyway, I have next to no personal knowledge of growing, but I have read just about everything there is to read on the subject. Including quite a few posts here (thanks to said posters)

Ok, so naturally I have a few questions, and I figured that this is the best place to ask.

First up, I have a relatively small space to grow in, a wardrobe that is about 1.5m(depth) x 2m(height) and roughly x 2m (width) these dimensions are in metres.
What would be my best options in regard to space here? Better to grow outside of the wardrobe or what? Obviously I don't have the space to make a purpose built grow room. And will be growing 2 plants max. at a time, as it is purely for personal use.

Second, after reading quite a few grow guides, they just seem so meticulous, soooooooo much detail, I am aware that it is a relatively delicate process, but my problem is that all these guides are written with American brands, shops and so on in mind. I have looked into it, and soil and nutrients are very easy to come buy here in Brazil (am living here, but not from here), but I mean is there a problem with using straight soil and water? Will I still get results? (positive ones) Do the quantities etc have to be exact because for me to buy ph readers and moister detecters and what not is just too difficult here, they exist but are so expensive and rare that its just not worth it. So yeah my question is, I guess, can I do this just following guides and using a bit of guess work??? I'm a little hesitant with this part. Is there anyone out there with a high amount of experience in growing White Widow with basic tools and instruments??

For now, I think thats it. I have 5 feminised White Widow seeds at home waiting to be planted, just need to clear these doubts in my head, you guys seem to have a very large amount of knowledge on the subject and I'm crazy about getting my own personal grow going as I'm so fucking tired of getting ripped off by dealers it's not funny!! As I said, I have read and am still reading all I can find, but as usual I have doubts and worries, I really appreciate any and all help, and I hope my questions aren't to painfully ignorant.

Hi Green and welcome to cannabis cultivation.
The wardrobe you describe would be fine for 2 plants. 3 gallon containers would be good for your space. You didn't specify your lighting. I would suggest a minimum of 500 watts of CFL, (actual, not equivalent). Perhaps just a large bag of potting soil, rather than "native" dirt.

You need a proper medium. If you go buy a bag-o-soil and put water in it and stick it in an unmodified wardrobe; your plant will always look "depressed" because the leaves will droop. You will probably think it needs to be watered so you'll water it again and notice the water pooling at the top and slowly draining if at all. Then you will wonder why your plant looks burnt and that's because you didn't PH any of that water you dumped in her. It will be hot in there with a light and no ventilation so your plant will stretch in veg and get extremely stressed out in flowering. You probably won't get that far in such a humid climate with poor drainage in your medium and no ventilation in the room so you'll have mold in your soil that is slowly killing your plant. If you do manage to avoid mold/mildew and make it into flower; your bud production will be slow and sparse and your perky little white hairs will quickly be replaced by nanners that will pollinate the rest of the plant and virtually halt all resin production. It isn't like you put much effort into the grow anyway so you didn't lose anything, right?

Yeah when I said dirt I didn't actually mean outta the ground hahaha, I have a few shops here that I am investigating, for nutrient soil/fertilizer and what not

Right, the lighting, well, I was thinkin about getting an HPS bulb at about 400w is that too much too little for 2 WW plants? Anyway, hps for flowering and for the seedling/vegatative stage was just thinking about getting a couple of fluorescent bulbs, as I haven't found one shop here that sells those damn Metal Hallides (sorry don't know the spelling) would this be good as a setup? Absoulutley any advice is welcome

Oh and should a get a big ass box or something to put the plant in, inside the wardrobe? I dunno for cleaniliness and general wellbeing of the plant? I also thought (dunno if a good idea or not) about putting (in the bottom of the box) a layer of tinfoil to reflect the light up onto the untouchable parts of the plant......would that be necessary or helpful at all?

Anyway I know, lots of questions. But wanna get it right!!

Ok, well thanks, I realise that I need nutrient based soil and ventilation, sorry I didn't add that in, I guess i kind of thought of that as a given. But yeah sorry, here is what I have going: A couple of fans, nutrient based soil (nitrogen, phossphorous, potasium) some liquid nutes aswell, and (not yet, but will buy) lamps/lighting. So yeah anything I can build on that with the info I have given??

400w is great for that space and that amount of plant, you should get very good yields if you can control your heat. Never use tinfoil in your grow room since it has poor reflectivity and what does reflect can create a laser beam effect and burn holes in your plants. Using mylar or simple white paint would be your best options and cheap as well.

Really?! No tinfoil then, sweet as. What about for a reflective dish on topof the light bulbs? Is one necessary, or not??

May I ask, what Mylar is?

So, 400w is good for the HPS bulbs, but what about the vegatative stage? Any tips for lighting, I don't want the plants to grow to high for obvious reasons, I saw that Metal Hallides are the best for veg stage as they emit blue light, are there any other types of bulb that does a similar job? Unfortunately I don't have access to Metal Hallides

Yeah I know, sometimes just get lazy, my bad. I have to say though, sometimes you get soooo may different answers from the internet, I just like to hear (read) the words straight outta the horses mouth, you know? But I agree, google is my friend

Oh and one more thing, any tips on the veg stage lighting?? Am a little confused about this as so many people recomend so many different setups.

One thing is as sure as the tides, everyone has an opinion re: lighting! I would suggest that you determine the amount of light that you need for your grow area, then decide between the choices out there, HID, CFL, LED, & some exotic others. You will find a lot of folks are hardcore HID. It is somewhat "old school", IMO, but they WILL defend to the death! LOL. I prefer the CFL's because I feel you get more
"bang for the buck", less heat and a hell of a lot cheaper to buy & operate. Example: you can get the same results from 1 - 300 CFL, topside, and a pair of 42's on sides = 384 watts Vs 1 - 400 watt HID. Better light coverage and a lot cooler with CFL setup.
But as I said, it's about personal choice. I'm sure every grower in here does things slightly different from one another, and thats as it should be, we aren't robots! Cannabis cultivation in my view is 90% science and 10% art, and its our ART we are trying to show off in here. So get the guide lines, get a feel for it, ask more questions, and get on with your art my friend.

I will be growing, at the most 2 White Widows at a time, as long as everything goes smoothly right hahaha, I will deffinately be using the HPS lamp for the flowering stage, and I guess a couple of CFL's for the veg. stage I will do a bit of research on the cfl's, in terms of how many and what power I may need. And also how I will mount 'em up.

As soon as I get started I will post up some photos and do a small grow journal I guess. As I need and want all the help I can get from you guys! I think I have the majority soughted out, but it's the finer details that count.

Anyway, if anyone else out there has some tips or help, please feel free to message me or write here, I am open to any advice.
