Grow Tent in Flower supplemental light help

I have a 4x4 grow tent with 600 watt light 7 plants 2 weeks into flower. It turned out to be 1 or 2 to many. Its pretty crowded in there and the lower portions of the plant arent getting too much light.

I was wodering if I could get some 100 watt cfl's from home depot ($10) and drop them below the canopy on a wire and socket. Or do I need the expensive u shaped cfl's ($40 each). there just so expensive and a difference of 25 watts. The 100 watt lights from home depot 1750 lumens.

I just dont know the difference in the lights and any suggestions on getting some light down below on my girls.I paid extra for a hortilux hps and wanted to get the most for my money and time. I appreciate everybody's help

hey dude...got the same tent and light size, and i ran into the same exact problem lol but nah you don't need the expensive ones, any supplemental lighting will help as long as theyre close enough...i mean, as for as light goes more is better but you dont need the best for it to work efficiently...good luck

The regular CFls work great. Try to get CFL bulbs that are "Soft White" colored (they'll say they have a 'color temperature' of 2700k) because those ones will help promote flowering. However, the "Bright White" (6500k) bulbs will also work. You will also get usable light from the "Daylight" (5000k) bulbs, but the other two options are supposed to be better. CFLS are great because they don't raise the temperature of your grow area and you can get many of them for very cheap. There's definitely no reason to get the U-shaped bulbs. The one thing to keep in mind with CFLs is their light is only useful to the plant for 2-6 inches or so. I try to keep my CFLs as close as possible without touching (1-2 inches from leaves) to get the most usable light to my girls. You just have to be vigilent that your leaves aren't actually touching the lights or they will get burned.

As far as how many to get, what I do is if any part of my plants look 'shadowy' then I usually stick an extra CFL there to supplement. It can be helpful to get those V-shaped attachments for your light sockets, which allow you to split one light socket into two, so you can put two bulbs on one light socket. It also helps put the CFLs at a usable angle. They give off the most light from the sides, so you want to try to get the sides facing your plants.
