Grow room mistake, really need some help

Hey guys, I have been building a grow box for a few days and I finished it, and then the people on here convinced me that I needed more room. The box I built is 20"x"23"x4' I planned on separating it into two areas, and doing seeds in bubbleponics, clone before flowering, and flower one plant at a time. Is that space too small?

I thought it was, so I decided to build a shelf in the closet above the top of the box. Above that shelf I now have another 4'x23"x4.5' area that I was going to put the bubble deal on. Then I realized, I'm only 5'7", and those plants are gonna get pretty high. I have no way to get shit done at 8' in the air. Hahaa

So that being said, I want to try and cut my losses. I will use the whole closet if I have to, but there are issues. First off, the house is a rental. My landlord is a "puts" and never comes around and doesn't care about anything. (I will get it all back to normal when I move out) Big problem is that I have a very very nicely made box now and no idea what to do with it. On top of that, The closet doesn't have a door. I don't think that a stand door would open up in the small space because there is a toilet there.

Does anyone have any ideas to help me? I am drowning.

Ummm as for the door a suggestion is to make a Mylar curtain (or other reflective material) and build a made to fit double door that is lockable or if you arent worried about people gettin in there same thing with an el cheapo acordian door from home depot. Thats all i got hope was some help if you didnt think of it already.

Yea the dimensions on it are really weird, but there is good news! I found an old closet door that we took of that almost fits perfectly, I will just build a small buffer frame on one side of it. This leads to another question though, the door is a bit SHORT so I was thinking about doing this...

If I raise the door up so that it is flush at the top and side, there is about a 3" gap at the bottom. Can that be my passive intake for the closet?! I think it would work perfectly, then I would just get a strong exhaust fan at the top right?

That is the box that I made.

The closet

Hidden side area kinda deal

I took down the shelf and such and am going to be putting that door in that I found if it will work out.

So, anyone have the good news for me?!

Can you post a pic of the space? It would be easier to give ideas if we knew what it looked like. I would go to a local fabric store and pic up two heavy pieces of fabric. Tell them you are trying to create a doorway for you room with it so that no light comes in and wakes you up at night and they can show you the heaviest fabric. Then get the measured pieces you need and tack it with small nails or staples to the top inside of the door frame nad put a long piece of would along the bottom to keep it spread out and down. Then when you want to work in there you just role it up. Go to you tube and watch the Mr. Green videos for build ideas as well. As long as it's a light proof fabric or plastic then your good to go. I used velcro myself attached to the fabric that can run down and seal the sides with then I just pull it up and it pulls away. Like in the video. You can always get a ladder to access a higher shelf.

Hey green, thanks for the reply. I think we may have posted around the same time so you didn't see them. The pictures are right above you, and I also found a door! Thanks!

I would use heavy bags on the front of the box you built and add a fan to take hot air out at the top and put it somewhere out of the way but use CFLS and a small bubbleponics unit with like two sites to start your clones or seeds. Then just create a front door to the closet like u originally asked about and flower in there.
Or you can just go from seed and do like three plants in your closet. My first closet grow I used heavy un opened lawn and leaf bags that I taped together which were light proof if you got the good thick ones. Then I started 3 plants under CFL's hanging down from hooks above. Then when they get to 5 nodes you flower them and keep the females. Just line to closet with reflective mylar or paint it white. put a little fan at the bottom to pull air in and hang one at the top to blow air out. Use small twist in hooks from any hardware store and get some light chains from Wal-Fart to raise and lower stuff.

Thanks a lot green a lot of that sounds really good.

I ordered seeds, but I don't know if they are going to come. It's been a week i think. I ordered them from Nirvana and they have a good rating to ship to the US, but nothing yet. I am going to be going from seed, but I want to just clone before flower and flower one at a time. You think I should use the box to do what now though? I keep re-reading it and I am confused.

Maybe I am even confused as to how many areas I need. I was under the impression I need a veg and flower area.

I may even go as far as saying, if you were in this situation, what would you do?

well, you can grow a single plant in it and don't top it. you can just tape up some black trash bags as a doorway. it works better than you may think. other than that, if you have room outdoors you can just use this as a veg box? i use my growcab as a veg box until summer comes around

Definitely no go on growing outside haha.

That box was built to fit in that little side nook and fits perfectly. I think i may get black out material and make a door for that, and use the rest of the closet for the rest.

Issues: That box fits snug in that little nook, which means i need to use the front for my intake for the box. How do you set up an intake on a cloth door?

Was hoping to see some replies after work. BUMP

No one can help me out with the intake on the cloth "door"?

So get a blackout front curtain cover kinda thing, but have like a bottom section cut out on it? That way I can just do exhaust right out of the top of the box right?

Is it bad to pump the exhaust from the small box into the rest of the closet. At the top of the closet there is going to be further ventilation, so is it a big deal?

lol thats kinda funny ( to me ).. Mainly because I was in the same situation.. I spent about 300.00 on good wood/fans/hardware/tools etc and built a killer box w/ 2 120mm and 1 200mm fan on the ceiling for venting and 4 120mm fans ( which i later took out and just left it passive intake ) for intake, door/with hidden lock, decorative plywood on the outside and fake "drawers" ( to make it look like a closet wardrobe ).. And of course I ended up tearing the entire thing down and just using my closet by itself w/ no box.. lol. What a fucking waste of time, money, blood, sweat and tears lol..

the added height of the closet will help some ( my closet it like 9ft tall but only 4 ft long and 22in deep ) but you will need to vent the hot air out of the closet or else it will build up in an hour or so and become too hot. I had an idea about a "stealth closet vent" but never did it.. Ill make a crude diagram of my idea and post it later.

But here is a link ( home depot ) and a pic of a door that may fit the OP's needs since there is a toilet in the way and there isnt enough room to have a normal closet door .

GOod find OLdSchool, but luckily I did find a door that is going to fit the space pretty well. It is going to have surrounding openings on the left and bottom of the door, so i iwll use the bottom as the passive intake and build a door frame of sorts for the left gap. I think that should work.

Oh, and I am in the same boat. I love that box, and now Im thinking it's just kinda in the way =/
