Grow Journal for Big Bang and The Doctor by Greenhouse
Hey everybody, Long time listener, first time caller. Ivebeen growing outside since I was a teenager and at least had a firm grasp ofthe fundamentals before moving indoors. This will be my 5[SUP]th[/SUP] growinside. It is day 67 of Veggie cycle and I intend to move the girls to 12/12 ina matter of days. The subjects are, 1 Big Bang and 3 The Doctor, both fromHerbies (Greenhouse seeds). First I have to harvest my current tent population. It is a strain we call Karma locally and it has been around in someones closetfor at least 20 years. It is probably just an Indica mutt but WOW does it packa punch. I wont dwell on it too much for the purists out there. J Day 62 for The Karma. Grownfrom clones, it has proven to be a 9 week flower so Im cutting in 2 days. Twodays after that, the Doc & BB go in the tent.
A little about the hardware of this grow. Veg light 1 is a 4foot 4 bulb T5 blue spectrum light I got for 110.00. Veg light 2 is the same in2 foot. It is in the drying closet (also set up for VEG overflow or Mothers). Iam flowering under a 1000W HPS. Ballast, bulb and cheap reflector for 129.51. Caughta Sun Systems Yeildmaster 6 air cooled reflector (23.7x22.5) on sale for55.00. Got a 4x4x7 tent, bought for $94.00, modified for a 6 foot ceiling.Venting with 2 6 240 CFM inline fans. One for HPS and one venting from thetent ceiling. All exaust fans are pushing into homemade carbon pre-filters forodor control (20.00 each at Lowes/Home Depot) https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=509470
Most everything else I bought at flea markets, Goodwill& yard sales (50 cfm exaust fans, Veg space is a 4 foot wide entertainmentstand from Goodwill, reflective material, 4 and 6 duct, duct reducers, splashtrays, SCROG screen (made from 2 pet gates)). Ive been able to do this veryeconomically. Im fairly handy and can build and alter everything myself. Karmais extremely pungent and I added two HEPA/Carbon filters to the room. All in,minus soil & nutes, about 850.00. Not too shabby!
Veg Space 1,
Veg Space 2, used for drying or Veg overflow. I keep the HPS ballast in here when it's not in use to cut some heat in the grow room.
My soil is Happy Frog potting mix, nutes from Botanicaire(Pure Blend Pro Grow & Flower, 3-2-4 and 1-4-5 respectively). PH up is0-0-8 and PH down is 1-5-0. I use a simple PH meter and always rinse withdistilled water. As so many journals have pointed out, cleanliness in the growspace is paramount. My nute solution goes in at PH 6.6 and runoff is 6.3-6.4.Keeping the roots happy at 6.5! A mistake I made with my first crop was notPHing my non-nute water after the nutes stopped (2 weeks or so prior toharvest). My out of tap PH here is 8.1. Talk about a reaction (I havent had agirl beg me for acid like that since Shakedown Street at Deer Creek). Same goesfor babies. Ive never added nutes to the water regimen til week 5. Make surethe PH of that water is comparable to what you will be feeding once nutesstart. Small corrections! MJ doesnt like anything too much, too fast.
Here they are at Day 66. Outdoors I was a firm believer inHST. I worked with a guy in the early 90s we called Wavy Gravy (He looked likehim J).Heused to grow, weaving through fence lines using LST, but when the girls got toSeptember he would beat the hell out of them with a tobacco stick. He grew thebiggest buds I have ever seen. To my knowledge he never lost a branch. As amatter of fact, most branches ended up as thick as my finger. Thats the pointI knew exactly how hardy and stubborn MJ was! Anyway, I digress. I use wirecoat hangers cut into approx. 8 sections. I put a sharp bend in one end. Thatsharp bend allows it to catch in the soil and not be pulled out by the plantstraining to go UP! The other end I curve to hold down the taller branchesdown. The whole concept of Low Stress Training is to keep your top branches ata uniform height. Top flowers grow bigger and better. Thats just the geneticsof the plant. It especially comes in handy when transplanting to a SCROG. TheSGROG is just LST chapter 2. BB and Doc were both topped once the 5[SUP]th[/SUP]junction of leaves had fully developed.
Above canopy day 66. Without LST they would be about 2 foottall. As it is, they are minus a foot.
Below canopy day 66. Clean, free of debris and airy.
The lady on the left is the Big Bang.
I suppose thats it for now. Ill be back next week with anupdate. Please feel free to ask anything or make comments. Were all in thistogether!
