Granddaddy Purple from seed by Canuck

This is my 6th grow. I'm so excited to start GDP because I'm in love with purple bud, only had it a few times in my life and this is my dream come true! I've seen many different pictures of the finished product of GDP and some don't look at purple as others. I'm crossing my fingers for that beautiful bud!

I have a very small space to grow - about 24"x30". I'm using a Pro Grow 180 watt LED for veg and then kick my plants outside one by one as space become limited. My babies start off in solo cups with Roots Organics Greenfields. I'll eventually move them to 2 gallon smartpots, then finally 3 gallon smart pots. I keep my plants small because I need to be able to tuck them away on occasion when certain company is over.

I used the wet paper towel method and all 7 popped in less than 24 hours. Woohoo!!!

5 days old and going strong! Except for one - it's off to the side with a ziplock bag over it.

Here's a picture of my veg area! It's down and dirty, but it works for me. It's in a storage closet inside my garage. The garage gets a lot of ventilation, so I just leave the storage door open and a small fan on. The LED helps a lot with the heat. I keep the light on 24/7 so I don't have to worry about making it light tight.

Well my little babies are doing well! The one on the far left had a bit of a struggle out of the gate. I put a misty plastic bag over it and placed it off to the side for a few days and thankfully it was revitalized! Yesterday was their first real watering. Before that I was just misting them.

Nothing too exciting! LOL Just a little love and a little waiting :-)

Three weeks old from sprout as of tomorrow! They are doing good - showing some signs of heat stress and ph fluctuations, but it's been really hot here and the PH thing is definitely my fault. I haven't fed them nutes and probably won't until it's time to flower. I have a business trip coming up on Aug. 28th for 3 weeks so I need to breed these before I leave.... giving me 5 weeks from now to complete that. Cutting it kind of close! eeek! I topped about 1/2 of them yesterday but now I'm considering not topping the rest because they all need to be outside and flowering by the end of this week. Only giving them a week to recover from topping. I plan on holding 1 back to veg in my tiny space for 7-8 weeks - hope I pick a female! :-)

I took these pictures right after I watered them so they are droopy! Next time I'll try to remember to take them all out for a family picture before watering :-)IMG_1368.JPG IMG_1369.JPG

On Tuesday Aug. 4th these babies will be 4 weeks old from sprout! I still haven't fed them any nutes. Tomorrow I plan on repotting them in 3 gallon smartpots. A few of these plants have really taken off!!! In the back of my mind I'm thinking the big ones are probably males, but you never know. A couple of my plants are starting to develop preflowers but nothing obvious yet.

My tiny veg room is filling up so all but one of my plants are going to get thrown outside tomorrow. I will start to harden them off in the shade for about 3 days and then they will get full sun.

This is where the real fun begins!!! I am hoping to see beautiful colors!!!! :-)

When did you get your GDP seeds just recently or you've had old stock? Just curious I got some new stock so Trying to see all i can from the new release since it had been gone for so long. Plants look healthy and good so def want to see what you get from them regardless

Transplant into the 3 gallon went pretty well. A few of my plants have preflowers, but still very immature. I have 7 plants all together, but I kept the smallest back in the veg room hoping it will be a mother plant. After this breeding project, I just want to grow clones for awhile :-) This is day 3 of them being outside in the shade and I fed them all a small dose of grow nutes. Next week I'll start the bloom nutes for my outdoor plants and keep up the grow nutes for my indoor plant in veg. Can't wait to start seeing some pistils!!!!!!!

Glad they are doing good and looking great for you. I love how indica dominate they are looking that's a great sign since GDP is very indica dom. Cant wait to see what you do with them. I gifted half my pack to a buddy of mines for some other beans. Looking forward to seeing what you get.

Smart idea on clones too. It makes things easier truly especially if you have something that's proven and good. So glad I have the space to clone and keep clones

5 weeks old today
Starting 2nd week of 12/12

My plants are doing pretty well. I was hoping the preflowers would have come along a bit more at this point, but any day now. I've been looking at them through a 40x jewelers loupe eagerly almost every day :-) It's so tough to tell right now, but I've been guessing the sex on all of them based on their preflower and wrote it down on the little flag that's it each pot. I'm pretty sure I at lease have one male and one female :-D

They are stretching, but nothing too crazy. I'm going to give them a bit of nutes tomorrow, but I'm on the fence whether or not to change to bloom nutes yet. They are growing lots of leaves onto bud sites right now and all of them don't even have a developed preflower. I'm thinking I'll give them one last week of grow nutes and give them a chance to mature a bit more. Yesterday when I gave them water I also added BT as I am starting to see leaf miners and spider mite bites. I saw a thrip the other day too. I plan on giving them a treatment of some type to protect it before they start really flowering. I try to avoid chemicals as much as I can, but the bugs eat us alive out here.

I put my outside plants on a table this time and man has that been a lifesaver!!! My back is loving that :-) I thought I was going to let them go a bit more au natural this go around and not mess with them too much (as far as low stress or any type of training besides topping), but I ended up pinching the stem and bending the two top colas on my biggest plant to avoid giant bud antlers.

My little plant I held back is still chillin under the light in 24/7 light. I leave for my trip in 17 days, so I'm hoping it will pop a preflower in the next couple weeks so I know whether to toss it or not :-)

Looking great bro. Looks like they are staying nice and short. Now all they need is to swell up, get frosty and some beautiful purple color and smell great then it'll be perfect. Look forward to seeing more

I'm actually a bro-ette :-) If you have links to these other grows of GDP I'd love to see them. Purple bud has always been my fantasy. I've only done a handful of grows, all more or less green, so watching something transform into big purple flowers is going to be stunning to watch! The closest I've been is my profile pic (low ryder auto). Beautiful pistils, but when they aged, they just turned brown and curled in :-(
