Goodbye Advance Nutrients, hello Aurora Innovations!

So after many many years with Advance Nutrients I have decided it's time to break up and move on. When AN changed their Bud Candy formula the first time, it broke my heart. When they changed it again my cheating tendancies got the best of me and I turned to John and Cutting Edge for his Sugaree. After falling in love with the Sugaree, my mind was made up that AN and myself would be spending a lot less time together. So after years of hype, thousands of dollars, and some great harvests I found myself window shopping the nutrient market again. I've ran Fox Farms, I've ran H&G, ran Canna, ran Dyna Grow, and ran Biobizz, along with AN so I was no virgin to the nutrient game. Well today I made my decision when I went and picked up my order at the hydro shop and it was loaded down with Aurora's Roots Organics, Soul Synthetics, and their new line of Uprising nutrients. The whole line up was there including some Oregonism bennies. Not to mention I am a stones throw away from Eugene Oregon where Aurora Innovatons recides, so that's a major plus! So I guess this is goodbye for now AN, it's been good, real good at times, but it's our time to part. Maybe I will be back, but for now Roots Organics has some shoes to fill...

curious as to what your yields with AN were that would make you want to change? i have never used anything but AN, but with the results im getting, i dont see any reason to try anything else.

Patrick, my yields are great honestly but there's more to it than my nutrients. My veg cycle is insane, and sets up my flowering cycle to yield well. Dont get me wrong my nutrient program plays a roll in yield, but that's not my reasoning for parting ways with AN. Being a grower for 15 years I've seen the nutrient market get turned upside down and inside out and AN led that parade. I still really like their Sensi bases, but the conni bases are way over hyped and out of the world on pricing. AN has some great additives both synthetic and organic, but again the prices are thru the roof for a grow of our size. AN never made me feel like a customer they could care they had or not, and that bothered me. Being a business owner/operator myself I understand the importance of a good relationship between consumer and retailer, and AN left that part out. Aurora went out of their way to get us as a customer on a reccomendation from the shops owner. AN would have told us to pay now, decide later, and again pay later... So yeah no real bitches about their products other than the Bud Candy issue and the outrageous prices even on bulk orders. Aurora has already quoted us prices for 55gal drums if we need and those prices are amazingly cheaper! I wish everyone who uses AN the best of luck and with their products luck is on your side, but you better have a thick wallet if you wanna run their entire line in a 50 gal res that gets dumped every few days...

i use 30 gallons in the res a day. and im using connoisseur so i definitely feel the price blast at (my cost) 530 bucks for a 6 gallon of A&B. but i have only been growing a year and when im getting close to 3 pounds a light, i really cant complain with the price no matter how outrageous. please keep us informed i would love to know the yield difference. i hear what your saying about having a large grow and cutting down costs.. but also if you look at it like how much you lose per light... if you got an ounce or two less and had 6-10 lights.. the nutrients pay for themselves many times. definitely hate talking to any tech on the phone and even the reps at the local stores arent real cool and dont really give a fuck about you. but if you been growing that long please keep me updated on how your yield differs i am curious to know.

i am using AN now. Its too pricey IMO. I'm going to switch to Cutting Edge's line up next. I also use Cutting Edges Sugaree and I am pleased with it. I like the fact it is OMRI rated.

For the price I paid for AN's 2gallon Sensi A+B plus all the 1 gallon additives (and i left out a lot of there additives) I could buy 6 gallons of everything i need in Cutting Edge.. Cutting edge in the future for me !!

Curious to hear about your veg cycle since its insane ! I've been using fish hydrolysate as my main source of nitrogen along with seaweed, silica, cal, liquid karma. As for training, I've been bending (or super cropping) haven't been topping though. Maybe I should start topping and bending.. If you could share some tips or opinions it would much appreciated !

Patrick, lol I don't plan on loosing ANYTHNG per light, but I guess time will tell. You know exactly the pains that I feel everytime I pick up nutes, and you also know the joy I feel come harvest time. For me the pains have over ridden the joy I get from the yields, so I am hopeing my decision to move on will be a wise one. You've only been growing a year and you pull 3 a light? That's something to write home about I don't care who tells you diferent. It took me 5 years to get 2lbs a light and another couple years after that to hit 3 a light and that was only with certain strains. Kuddos to you! It's a shame you never got to use the first Bud Candy (at least to hit the market) formula, it was really something to have in your arsonal. It used to be thick and mollasses like with a lot of mag sulfate. Now it's clear and super thin, and not nearly the product it once was. Big Bud is another good AN product as is Voodoo, Trantula, and piranha. Products like Bud Factor X, Bud Ignitor, and their mother earth tea are nothing special especially for the price. Their Sensi bases are great in my opinion and are as good as the conni base for a fraction of the connis price! But everyones garden is different and calls for different care so what works for me may not work for you and vise versa. But if you're pulling 3lbs a light on a regular basis then who am I to tell you anything! Take care man and I'll keep you posted on what I think about the Soul Synthetics line up. I remember thinking that H&G's shooting powder was going to take my garden to the next level and was truly let down, Overdrives a little better of product but still spendy as hell!

Dun dun dun... This may be a little long so I appologize in advance.

John at Cutting Edge is a stand up dude! Great guy with a ton of good knowledge and no ego. His prices are great, and I hope it stays that way as he grows, time will tell. His Sugaree is like a RedBull for your plants! Sort of smells that way too! Tons of carbs and electrolites! OMG the smell! You'll be able to run a full year with CE for less than you can a 3 month grow with AN. Let me know how some of their other products work for you!

Now for my veg techniques... My veg is divided into two stages, a pre veg which takes place in cups or 4" pots and under T5's and a main veg which takes place under full light and in their largest containers. My pre veg last no more than two weeks from the time the clone gets pulled from the cloner. My main veg period lasts another 3 weeks, maybe a month depending on what I've got going on. I transplant directly into the plants final resting spot or their largest container (usually 5-7 gallons). I used to transfer into a 3 gallon container and then again into a larger 5-7 gallon a week and a half before flipping the lights but I ran out of 3 gallon pots one grow and had no choice but to throw everything into 7 gallon pots. The result was astonishing, easily 20% more growth, yield, and probably close to 5-7 days faster. No shit, just by skipping the 3 gallon stage. I also do not disturb the roots when I transplant and I treat them like they're 500 year old china. Idk if there is china thats 500 years old but you get my drift, lol. I used to add great white bennies but now use the Oregonism XL bennies, but same principle applies when it comes to sprinkling some love in the pots during transplant.

I top everything (most everything anyways) at 18" once the cages go up. I prune two more times before flowering and make sure to do all of my pruning/training at the same time (or within a day or two with a larger grow) so they all shock and recover the same time. I prune to create the most bud sites mainly and lollipop to help air movement and to concentrate the plants energy to it's main shoots. By the time my plants are ready for flowering they are on such a fast track that the first few weeks in flowering they're pretty much just kicked back and loving life. It's not till week 4 or so that I begin to really pump them up again. Too many people feed to heavy too early on in flowering and it causes lock ups and or defficencies that take too long to rebound from and causes havic on yields and quality (mainly yields). I like to wait before I pump the flowering nutes upwards of 1200ppm, and then I always feed up till when I know I have to back off and begin to flush. A lot of growers start their flush too early and you miss out on maximizing your plants full potential late in flowering when a lot of strains really swell up.

As far as nutrients goes I just started Buddha grow, Buddha Bloom (yes bloom), Amino Aide, Trinity, Hygrozyme, Ancient Amber, Extreme Serene, Oregonism XL, Uprising grow, Elemental, and foundation. I also use Grandmas mollases in veg for extra carbs. I've got high hopes (go figure) for this lineup and that same goes for the flowering lineup. I am hoping that Bud Swell and PeaK really perfom for me, I guess time will tell.

thanks for the insight !! You will like Bud Swell, I used the liquid form and the plants responded well. I was dumping upwards of 1,000ml in my 60 gal res of budswell in the later stages of flower. Honestly you could probably dump a whole 5 gallon of bud swell in your res and be fine (not recommended) !! BudSwell also has a veg form with seabird guano in it, check it out it has a green label.

Hello I know this thread is old but am looking at cutting edge currently JPILL any word on how much you liked cutting edge? how were your yields with cutting EDGE?
