Germination trick.

I have tried several methods. However this works 100 percent for me. I have a tiny heat mat (the window seal kind) 7 watts. I fill one of those clear 6 oz. plastic cups with my soil and perlite mix. Moisten soil and stir the mix, so its slightly damp. Then I pop a hole in the soil with a pencil eraser 1/4 deep. Insert bean, then lightly cover with moistened soil. Water in the bean a bit. Then the bottom cup goes onto heat mat. Then I take an identical cup and place it on top. After a while you see the bottom cup warm, and the top cup will fogg up, creating a humidity dome. Wait 3-4 days and whola! Remove top cup and get a cfl right down on sprout.

Sounds good I never pop into soil never know which way it'll pop open and which way root going. I usually wet paper towel put seeds on it fold over put in ziplock on top of cable box where it's warm. Most of my seeds pop in less than 36 hrs when I do it this way.

I don't know... I learned in 2nd grade that you have to start it in a wet paper towel and when you see a white hair coming out you put into the soil until it is dead. Then you do what the OP suggested.

Have had just the root pop out the tops before even though it was a half inch down. Just paper towel easier. Don't have to worry about to wet, to dry, is it to hot out for the seed etc. IMO it's a lot easier to pop the seed then plant. Especially indoors.

Do you really think that you are responsible for determining the direction of root growth? Or that the roots don't know which direction to go all on it's own?

The paper towel method is a good learning tool for elementary school children but if you had made it all the way to 3rd grade you would have had the opportunity to see how people really germinate seeds. In soil and with a little bit of attention and common sense.

I should market fucking paper towels to the hydroponic industry as a germination aid.

I actually do mine a little different. I soak in one ounce of kelp plant food, which is a 0-0-1. This works every time for me, and makes the roots super strong, and increase the growth rate of the root.
