Will the generator even run 5 1000 watt lights? The ballasts uses power as well. Are your ballasts rated to run on a generator? To find out if it is "worth" it or not calculate how much gas is required to run it for 12 hours, times by 31 days. Compare that to how much electricity the lights will cost you. my guess for electricity cost would be $190 a month for the lights.
