I have three Barneys Farms G13 haze under a 400 watt hps in 5 gallon buckets with Ocean Forest soil and am using Fox Farm nutrients. Ther have been flowering for 10 days. There are in what is getting to be a tight area. I have never trimmed any plants before but things are getting a little crowded which is good they seem healthy. Any ideas appreciated about trimming them or just leaving well enough alone.

thank you

You will get opinions on both sides. I leave my fan leaves on until they lose color and start to come off on their own. Some people trim just a leaf or two off the middle of the fan leaves, some people trim entire fan leaves.

Be careful with that Fox Farm nutrients, their feeding schedule is crazy aggressive and many mj plants can't tolerate it. Good luck!

As they stretch, space will open up between the nodes, so more light will hit lower bud sites, but not that much lower. The bottom third of the plant won't be getting much light at all.

Personally, I have my own theory about the bottom third. And that's that the purpose of those lower shoots is to have something there and able to rise should the top colas not make it to pollination -- hurricane, trampling yaks, whatever. That lower third is the plant's backup plan to create a new generation. But in my apartment, I have no need for a new generation. So I take off the bottom third in the hopes of allowing energy to focus on the tops. I do it first about a week before flipping, and then just keep it clean. The same way someone doing scrog does it.

Good luck!

I have grown this strain and my advice is to make sure you have fans blowing on them they are succeptible to mold formation.
