Just got a bag and put some seedlings in a 1 gallon container. When I water the soil dosent seem to hold the moister to well just kinna drains. Even when the soil is starting to dry around the edges. My question is has anyone else added to the mixture or do u use it straight?

let it dry for 30 minutes, and then poor more water into the container and it should hit the areas that were washed over the first time. The soil should kinda burp, and release a lot of air bubbles.

He is correct. If the soil at some point has gotten too dry alot of water will just pour right off the top while some will soak in...wet the top of the soil and then go back and slowly add water again and the water should be more readily absorbed by the soil. unless there is something else wrong this is only one possiblity.

i've used this soil and don't have so much of a problem with absorption as with retention-
i was in a decent size cab at the time but i had to put covers on the container to help control excess evaporation

i think this soil is good for seedlings and clones with the intention of up canning to a hotter mix

I used Happy Frog this time from seedling to harvest. You just have to make sure you feed nutrients at 1/4 strength starting around week 3ish. I always add perlite to my soil to improve drainage. Ocean Forest definitely needs perlite and Happy Frog not so much, but I like more drainage.

I have used happy frog from beginning to end.. what i started out with. In my experiences it takes longer to dry out than the FF ocean forest. You just need to start your grow nutrients a little earlier because the soil doesn't have much in the way of nutrients. I now start seedlings in happy frog only, then transplant them to a 50/50 happy frog and ocean forest mix.. its just the bomb :D

I have used Happy Frog for mothers and clones and a couple of flowering girls and it works great. Clones suffer almost no stress from ez cloner to their 1gal happy frog container and start growing in about 24 hours. Water the soil with PHed water before you put the plants in a let it dry/wet/soak accordingly for a little bit before proceeding. After that I just check for dryness in the top 2" and water very slowly til some water comes out the bottom and I am done. I do suggest flushing every month or so with this stuff for I have personally had some salt build up problems but it wasn't consistent.
