You can do whatever you think is best for your own specifications. There are products out there like final flush that claim they can flush out the fertilizer smell and taste of buds in three days. I myself leech or flush my soil every month in a cycle and about 7-10 days prior to harvesting. Now the statement of the last two weeks are the most improtant of bud development is debatable. You can subdivide bud growth in the following: 1) first several weeks you want to introduce nutrients that would promote the development of flower opening; 2) the next several weeks you want to have a nutrient solution that would promote the fattening of the buds; 3) the last weeks of flowering you want to have a concoction that would ensure proper maturity and bring out the great qualities of the bud inherent to the strain you are growing. So, dont you think that any phase has equal importance and not just one area contrary to what you heard. Best of luck to your grow.
