I'm a big CFL supporter as that is what I grow with but i'de personally recomend HID unless you have heat/space issues. If you want super simple for just a few plants and don't want to deal with ventilation and all that go with CFLs. If you have the room or feel like alil more of a project go HID all the way and just run some simple ducting and a fans. For short veg times and clones I'de also recommend flourecent however if you want to veg big go with a MH. Hope this helps.

I think flashlights work the best= )
only if its those led flashlights!!!!!!!

no but really its all down to size and space and ventilation. i have a 2x3x4 and a 400watt mh/hps. my temps were killer so i had to ajust for it and get some good venting goin on now my temps are under control for now.

if it were cfl vs hid head to head. hid all the way.

The only times i would recommend CFL over HID is if you are very limited on headroom, or if you are setting u a grow on a shoestring budget.

cfl's is like buying a hyundai, where a HID is more the equilvalent to a corvette.
either way your going to get where you want in the end,

lets say you do a grow with a bunch of cfl's once your plants start budding you will have to do something about the smell, at which point you can get a ozone generator, or a carbon filter and fan, So why not just get the fan up front, and get the HID light then you will be able to cool it, once they start smelling you can hook the carbon filter up to you inline fan. and your golden.

htgarden and supply has some good cheap stuff, I like HIDHUT.com better.
if you dont want to deal with cooling the lights, I might suggest buying some t5's although they do create a little heat, they penetrate a bit farther into the cannopy, combine that with a scrog, and you should have some decent results.

stealthhydro has some combo package for 189.00 bucks that roseman and purpdaddy have a good FAQ for, as well as quite a few others.
I havnt used it .. but they always get some nice looking plants,

my thoughts are if your going to take the risk of growing, grow big!
