Flies.....

Ok so I have noticed some little gnat fly things in and around my clay pebbles on top of my pots! :0 I'm going to remove all top clay pebbles as I think it's keeping the soil far too moist. I have watered twice in 12 days and not much at all but obviously the pebbles are not helping in way of a perfect environment for the flies and larvae going to use fly strips and cinnamon on the top of the soil. Supposed to work well. Anyone else have any ideas? Greatly appreciated!

I used a sulfur based insecticide, good for mold as well, to kill larvae. Strips for the big guys. 2-3 days they were all gone.

Cinnamon is a good top dressing for adult fungus gnats, problem is when you see adults flying it generally means they have already laid eggs.

Try this, it can also be used as topdressing...but I prefer mixing it right into my medium.

Ok cool, but if I let the soil dry out after removing the pebbles, add cinnamon and maybe even remove a little top soil and replace with some fresh stuff, it should break the cycle should it not?

You have to eliminate the larvae that feed on your root hairs...and those little bastards(adults)go in through your drainage holes on the bottom as well.

DM earth is made from sea shells, it cuts both the adults trying to feed and lay eggs on the way into your soil. And it also slices up the emerging larvae.

Now I realize everyone says to slow watering, but most cannabis likes a lot of water. With DM earth, you can simply top dress and you're done. They don't like cinnamon, but it won't stop them from going at the medium. You won't even need to remove existing soil.

Just an update, I went my own cheaper way and carefully removed the top quarter inch of soil and mixed in some cinnamon with some fresh stuff. Then laid some crawling insect sticky strips and hung a few fly strips. So far, I have caught 5 big adult flies, then there was a period of nothing, then suddenly I have caught about 3 more tiny tiny flies that I can only guess hatched recently. I haven't watered for some time now but they are only 15 days old and are doing fine. Hope I manage to break the cycle lol

And I'm guessing my infestation had only just began as there are no visible flies even when moving dirt and shaking pots lol
