First timer and using bubbleponic

this is my first time. I am going with a SH bubbleponics system. Let me preface by saying I have killed (or nearly) every plant I have ever had. I went with the method Roseman suggested of putting the beans directly into rockwool and than put about a turkey basters worth of water/half grow&micro pack on each cube and then put them into the system as suggested with the cubes resting on top of the water tubes. It is about 40 hours in and no sign of life and the rockwool kinda smells. Is this normal? How long before I should see anything? Have I totally fucked up everything? Any advice or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Roseman NEVER adds nutes until AFTER the seeds pop. I'm a vegetarian and don't own a turkey baster.

Look here for step by step detailed instructions and I'll ask the BudbleHeads to come visit you here.

If you have extra bag seed play with those. Soak in water from 18-24 hours. The ones that sink are good then papertowel or rockwool.

CautionPut some in paper towel and keep moist not saturated check whenever you can to keep moist, give em 36-48 hours and then check for sprouts, when sprouted move to medium of choice. Be careful moving sprouts as they break easily. I do it this way.

Another method is to soak seeds same time all the time 18-24 hours then plop into rockwool. Soak rockwool overnight with 6.0 pH'd water no nutes before putting seeds in. I believe this is what Roseman did on his last step by step here in the last two weeks.

Have some patients and wait for another few days. It takes a good day or two for the seed to know it's time to grow. Then it takes another day or few for it to sprout. Some beans can take a long time to go a week or more. Just flush your tank and get plain water in it.

Hey Mac - hang in there, and don't freak - it will work out for you. I totally screwed up the first week of my plants, and they survived and doing pretty good now. Just follow Roseman's tutorial and what tSunami said. It's great advice.

looking in the holes I see sproats but they have not cleared the surface, I was going to wait to turn on the lights until they are above the top of the rockwool, is this correct? I am using Dual Spectrum II lights. Roseman - sorry to misrep your method, being a newbie with no skills I misread or misunderstood. Thanks for your help all

did I read that correctly ? You put your feeder tuber under the rockwool cubes ??

put them into the system as suggested with the cubes resting on top of the water tubes.
It would be better to have these tubes butted up against the side of the rockwool cube, so it keeps the rockwool wet. I am sure it would work your way, but having the butted up to the cube is the method most everyone here uses.

Wouldn't hurt to drain the water and put new, fresh, PH balanced water in.

If you can see the sprouts hit it with a little light at a distance. 18"-2' should be fine. And like we all said, don't freak! You can freak after you taste the bud!

Try this next time.

Soak good seeds (seeds that are normally dark in color) in distilled water for 24 hours. If they are still floating after 8 hours, just tap them and they will sink. (Soaking seeds allows dormant hormones to be activated, you should see the start of roots emerging after 24 hours).

Take the pre soaked seeds and place them on three moist paper towels. Place three more moist paper towels on top of the seeds. Do not over soak the paper towels! Now place the moist Paper towels with seeds inside onto a paper plate. (I like to use a cookie rack, so air can get to the seeds). The most important thing is to allow the seeds to stay moist yet have air.

Place the whole thing in a warm dark place. Look for roots every day or so. When the roots are 1/2 inch long transplant into moist rock wool cubes. Use a chopstick to create a 3/4 inch hole in the rock wool cube, then place seeds root down with tweezers into the cubes. Do not touch the root with your fingers.

Pinch off a small piece of rock wool and place it over the seed hole. Turn on your lights. you will see leaf in 24 to 48 hours.

I have had a %100 germination rate with this method. Good luck and happy growing.

Next time will definately do the germ first method. Water has no nutes, pH 6. Cubes are good and moist (not overly so) no water comes out when pressing the rockwool. I had lightly soaked the cubes with a 1/2 strength nute solution. The feeder tubes are under the cubes, didn't want to oversoak the cubes. I see 2 sproats in the holes so far about 1/8" or so from the top. I will turn on the light as soon as they are above the surface

Whatever is convenient. Too low is better than to high as teh rock wool does have some capilary action. I'm assuming that the water from the tubes is at a trickle and not a gush, right?
