Hey all. I'm looking and looking. And I seem too not find the right information I need for cuttings. When's the best time? The best way to "cut"? Do's and don'ts. Thanks Mick

Hey dude, you can take cuttings at any time and from any part of the plant.
Some say cuttings taken from the top root quicker than those taken from the bottom but I've never really seen a difference, except cuttings taken from an old wooden branch do take longer than a green one.

To take a cutting, remove a branch 3-6" by cutting just under a node. Make it an angled cut, then remove any leaves from the branch except the top set. The remaining leaves need to be cut in half.

Next with a scalpel or Stanley blade scrape the bottom inch of stem to remove the outer green part of the stem to reveal a white layer underneath. This is where the roots grow from and although this step can be missed it speeds the whole rooting process up.

Dip the cutting in rooting hormone for five minutes then put into desired medium.

I put my cuttings in a misted propagator for three days at 25C. On the fourth, fith, and sixth day i remove the lid just for five minutes to exchange the air, and then after a week i start opening the vent.

I usually see roots between three to seven days, and I don't mist the cuttings themselves only the lid, and I don't use any nutes. Hope this helps, any questions just ask mate.

Oh n i use T5 fluros for lighting and too much nitrogen in the medium can slow it down so if using a mother just give her water for a week pre cuttings

I never took a clone that lived, but I do know that there is more than a shit ton of information out there on how to do it. Two good places to start are Google, and Youtube.
A few years worth of reading and watching right there.

I grow five plants at a time. To be safe, I take seven clones. But as I am now facing, 6-7 make it so I am in that mode of deciding which will die. Point being, not scientific but works very well for me.

I like to take small "tops". I LST the mother to get lots of them. I take prob 3" cuttings. I cut the top tops straight, not at an angle. As soon as I cut one, it goes immediately into water.

once I have them all cut, I clean a razor blade with ISO, get my rooting gel, and my prepared soil.

Cut the stem at a good angle, remove any extra leaves. Dip well in rooting gel and place into small hole in soil. Pack lightly.

Take a baggie and cut a slit in the top. Mist into it and place over the cup. Place cups on heating mat with a little light.

I will mist into those baggies once a day at first, then less, the. make the slits bigger, slowly reducing the humidity until they seem okay without it.

Soil mix - MG seed starter with about 30% plain perlite added in. This is the only thing I use MG for. For whatever reason, the seed starter works great for me. I get it damp with 6.5 water, not wet. I also leave a little room at the top so that the clone can grow a bit before hitting the baggie.

Clones go into solo cups with holes at the bottom. And I put a little straight perlite at the bottom (I find this makes it easier to get the plant out for transplant later).

Sorry I wrote a little disjointed. I know there is stuff that peeps say is wrong, less than ideal, etc and I can not argue with them. But it is simple and works for me. As time goes on I am nearing 100% success. But that is irrelevant and it is no biggie to cut extras for a personal grow.

i really want to throw one of two current extras into the ground to see what an outdoor grow is like but too paranoid :-)

Don't panic if they wilt for the first few days they all ways do un less ya use wilt spray.

If you are worried about the wilting part a good tip is to take your cuttings and put them into water straight after the cut for 24 hour it will do them no harm at all,in fact they would root in it if you leave em there long enuf, but takes a week or so extra.

Most people takeing clones for the first time all aways take more than you need so if ya want one take 2/3.

Look for a nice looking clone with a few nodes that ya can take off, make a cut just below it at a angle, with a clean razor or stanley blade make sure everything is clean. Then straight into water the longer its out of water the more chance of air getting trapped in the stem.

Before putting rooting gel on the cut, use a stanley blade to just carefully take about 5mm of the out skin of the bottom of the clone, just the outer skin

Use a rooting gel or powder but don't over do it a lot is not needed,in fact i often don't use any at all they just take a bit longer
.
Make a hole in what ever ya putting the clone in i use rock wool,i make the hole with a kebeb skewer and make the hole round about the full length of the stem, take a bit more of the bottom and plant,if you need to so the full stem is in the medium,so the only thing on top of the medium is the top. This will help you with wilting if the full stem is in say rock rool has a eg ;then it won't wilt has much after all its the stem that normaly wilts worste.

After you have taken the clones that you need either put a zip lock bag,but make sure a little air can get in.Leave it over them for 2 day's but mist twice a day have them on 18/6,if you have a propagator use that because it has vents on it that you can open after the 2 days with them closed.after 2 days of have the vents open the clones should be looking far better now.

This is the time that i take my propagator lid of and just leave them under a t5 light cfl or flouresent tube will do,after that be patient they will root it might take 7 days it might take 15/16 days but they will root most new cloners rush things and because we get them to root in 7/14 days if there have not they think that there's are never gonna root they will.

Misting 2 times a day for 2 days, then once a day after that for 7 days.then just every so often say 3 times a week the more you mist after a week the less they have to work for water,so just mist say like i said 3 times a week under the leaves and the tops .

Make sure that the medium does not dry out but you also do not want it too wet ,just damp.I would advice useing a medium that you can see the bottom off clear cups, are one thing you can use because you can see if any roots are through, rock wool,or jiffy plugs, these would be my first choice.

If you can get some b1 like superthrive then just add a drop to a ltr of water and soak the cubes in it they love the b1 clone's.

Try the leaveing in water for 24 hour this will help with wilting, make sure you dont put the bottom of the clone through the bottom of the rock wool cube ya want to be around 5mm / 10mm from bottom of the medium 5mm been my option, why i use a kebeb skewer gage the length of the stem against the cube,in soil this is not needed but make the cut / stem longer because you need to be around 5 /10 mm from bottom of medium.
