my plants have 5-6 nodes and are 15 inches tall and seem real healthy. my only concern is that they seem to rapidly grow up but not out. I have a top grow 26w CFL seems to be plenty. I do have 3 plants triangled in each pot but was afraid to seperate cause the roots are entangled. would that be the reason there not growing out,if so what do i do? or could it be cause of pruning purposes?

It's most likely the strain that's making it do that, if your planting from seed you should always have them seperated because you'll have to pull out the males anyways. I'm using CFL's and I have different strains, the loyriders (consider finding some of those) grow short and stalky like your looking for. In my setup, I have 4 cfl bulbs in trouble lights that hang around the bottome of the plants so the light is spread out (As well as 5 CFLs up top, all 26W like yours). Also, you'll need to make sure you have reflective (tinfoil or all white) material in there to spread the light around
